I just bought a sub and amp from my buddy and am trying to install it. The previous owner of my car had most if not all of the necessary wires. But has it rigged all ghetto. So I'm trying to connect the thick wire that goes from the battery to the amp, by the side that goes to the amp doesn't have one of those metal ends that I can put the screw threw it's just wire. And it really thick so indont think Incan really just twist it on the screw huh? I really don't know A THING about any sort of wiring or electrical. Help please! I would post a picture but idk how to, I have tapatalk but I can't figure it out

Ok so nobody? Shouldn't that part be closest to the battery?

You see the end of it on the picture I posted. How could I get that connected to my amp effectively until i get the thing on it to properly connect it. I'll take a closer pic. Basically just get the wire to my amp

I did that. Have been messing with it all night, I had the power and ground screwed in. The power light didn't come on the amp but then again it's like ten years old. And it is a bridged amp which idk about. But after everything was connected their was a spark when you adjusted the power cable. Know what this means?

The amp needs to know when to turn on and off. There is a wire called a remote turn on lead that usually comes from your head unit (wire is blue). Some people hook that up to a switch so they can turn it on and off manually instead of having the head unit do it.

The powered antenna wire on the head unit can also be used in a pinch.

you need to have your remote wire connected from the head unit as lethal said. its a blue wire. the fuse should be closer to the battery (in the engine bay somewhere) and run that thick wire back to the amp. and you can twist the end going to the amp and srew it in the power section of your amp. Make sure you have a good ground (by that i mean make sure the ground cable is touching the frame of the car or metal (not rust !! lol) with all three of those hooked... test to see if the amp turns on. a light that indicates that it on should come on when you turn your ignition on and your head unit comes on (if you hooked the remote wire right).

Do your self a favor n rip out the wires n re run them. The fuse should be no longer then 12" away from the battery.

When connecting to the amp the fuse should be removed untill everything is hooked up.

The ground should be screwed into the body where the body meets frame.

The remote should be connected to the remote lead on the h/u or to a switched 12v lead

Ok so I forgot about the remote wire. I had already taken out the power wire and swapped it around so that the fuse is close to the battery. So I'm guessing my only problem was the remote, which I have but it's not connected to my headunit. Skinny blue wire right? Would i run it to the constant power cable?

And I was close to ripping every wire out of there these past few days. I can't believe how this guy had it rigged up. So frustrating. Had to reground it in the trunk and pull and cut wires here and there. But tomorrow I'll get out there and hook up the remote wire thanks guys

Also why do I need to remove the fuse? Take it out until everything is connected and them put it back in? And where do I connect the remote wire onto my amp

you dont wanna plug in the fuse until everything else is secure and tight in order to avoid short circuiting the amp or anything else. it would probably just blow a fuse on the amp but doesn't hurt to be safe mate

Your remote wire allows you to not have to manually disconnect power to amp. As for fuse possibility can fry the fuse or amp ive been lucky and had it hooked up and everything went ok. Its jjst a safety precaution. May want to check all your fuses while you are at it

connect it to any 12V accessory. it just needs a signal so this way when you turn your car off the sub will go off as well.
some headunits have a wire that you can hook up a remote to, but if not connect it to anything else that goes on when you turn the key to accesories

Alright thanks man. I may just go to best buy today and get a new wiring kit and tear all the old stuff out. But i'll go home and hook up the remote and see if my amp turns on. Can you give me quick info on how to determine what gauge wire i need?

why do you need to do that? It sounds like you're almost done you just need to hook up that remote wire

whats the RMS wattage on your amp?
my amp puts out 320 watts RMS and I'm running a 6 gauge wire

Well I'd just like to start fresh. I'm not sure it'll even work when I get the remote wire connected. Had to cut through them cause they were corroded from laying in my trunk. But I may keep them if it works. Do you know where I can get some of the metal pieces you put on the ends of the wires? I don't have a single one so that makes everything that much more difficult.

My buddy said it is a 400w amp but i'm not sure. He had it pushing a couple of 10s in his bimmer so I'll take his word on it
