I honestly think the 7th gens look atrocious. They look like Jettas.
But since you're looking for a daily, that would be better. The Si isn't going to be very fun (or fuel efficient) driving on the freeway basically in VTEC most the time.

I personally HATE 7th gen civics, but based on your needs, the LX is the way to go. You seem more job/every day life oriented, not fun/fast/yay look at me while I drive 90miles a day to work kind of guy.

While the LX has a lot less options, gas isn't cheap and you've stated it; gas is what you're looking to save on. It doesn't require premium, it gets better mileage.

/discussion.

I personally would jump all over the si if they were the same price just cause its and si and I love 6th gen civics. but for your needs I would get the lx because the ride will be comfier and more suited for long daily drives

Its messed up! you guys give me your opinion and most of you agreed that the si would be better but not for the long daily drive, My only problem is that im kind of a car nut, and know that if i get the plain lx I would not be verry happy since is ugly and slower and PLAIN!!!, I know its what i sould get but the money i save on gas I'll be looking to spend on add on's like wheels and tires and stereo and lowering kit just to make it nicer, The Si, has a nice stereo even!!, and i would be happy with the wheels it has, But if i get the Si, you guys think would last a long time? Is the vtech going to sufer by being on the highway all the time? what is the life expectancy on them 1.6 Si, engines?
May be i'll get the Lx and after a couple of years give it to my son since he will be ready to drive by then; but then i'll be in the same boat, looking for something to drive. I know what you guys are telling me but still undesided...

If you're that into cars and think the "fun factor" outweights the mpg, lower mileage and higher resale value, then go for the Si. For all practicality reasons, if you're not planning on heavily modding the Si or doing some sort of racing, it's not really worth it IMO. Friend of mine has a '99 Si and both when it was stock and when it had your typical bolt-ons, I was far from impressed and didn't see how it was worth the extra money.

There's no doubt that the Si could last quite a long time. 115k miles is really nothing at all. If you know the maintenance history and know it was well taken care of and not beat on, it'll run for another 115k miles EASILY if you follow the regular maintenance schedule and take care of issues immediately if/when they arise. I believe V-TEC on those motors engage at 5,600 RPMS. Which you should never see on your daily commute if you plan on saving gas. With the gearing on those cars, 5th gear/70mph is around like 3300 RPM. If you drive around like an ass, then yeah you will be engaging V-TEC and reduce the life of your motor. There is never any set "life expectancy" for any car really. But, it is not uncommon to see 200k+ miles out of these motors and still having them run in tip top shape. Same goes for the LX, you can easily get a very long life out of it. Especially since it has lower mileage and is less likely to have been abused.

Words of wisdom right here.

To me it sounds like you would be dissatisfied with the LX because it's plain, etc. Go with the Si, you'll be fine for a daily commute and you'll have the fun when you want it.

I really apresiated all your wisdom and good wishes, sorry for being such of a hard head and indesiced butt. with all that you guys are saying, i keep going back and forth to the Lx, because like you say is lower in milages and would give me better mpg's which it what i really need, I have to really go with what i need and not what i want....
And if like some of you guys say the Si, its not really that much better in fun factor then the Lx dont sound so bad...
I really just hate to pass the oportunity of having the top dog in the civic world,,,, but again, i have to put in my head that it should be what i need and not what i want... Again thanks a lot for your info and shearing your good wisdom.... i have a little bit of time still to chose, i'll keep you guys in touch on my decition... keep the info comming, i will apresiated...

only way i.would ever buy a 7th gen is if i gota deal for under a grand and i would only flip it regardless and try to double my money. there ugly, slow, and not a good platform overall. im sure you can find a 2000 lx or or ex for around 3500 or less on craigslist. if you were local to me theres plenty.

Well i've been thingking and another question that i did my self i do to you all.. I wanted the car to keep for a loooong time what would you want to have, a nicely keept 00 Si or a clean but plain 04 Lx? Even if i have to put money in the engine of the Si sooner than on the lx because of the high miles to beging with, it would make a great old school car when it get old...no?

Just get the si. Its not like you'll be getting 20mpg out of it. I'm sure you can easily get 30mpg from the si, heck i get 27-30 out of my car and easily got 31+ out of my del sol. You'll get better engine, better looks and tons of aftermarket support. Its a done deal. Get the Si.
The engine is still a Honda and will go 200k miles.
Have you driven the cars?
Do that and i'm sure you'll make up your mind.
