If it's over 10% try to listen where it's leaking from.

Leaking out the exhaust = Exhaust Valve
Leaking into the intake/throttle plate = Intake Valve
Air bubbles in the top of the radiator(take off the rad cap) or into the adjacent cylinder = headgasket
Oil cap, Dipstick, Bottem end = Piston Rings

And everyone's right, my gf's car started misfiring like crazy with the flashing CEL and all that. We bought it not too long ago and it turned out the distributor rotor came loose, but this lead us to find it has an accord timing belt among other stuff.

if its mroe than 10% leak, spray some of your oil that comes in the metal squirt cans, jsut some really thin stuff into the combustion chamber. then try again. that will determine if its rings or not.

if its a headgasket the car will often have white smoke coming out the back, coolant in your oil, and oil in yoru coolant

I don't think a HG would throw a CEL though...?

Um yea if coolant has leaked in to the cylinders or oil leaks in the coolant a misfire code will come up or multiple misfires, that's how I found out I needed a new head gasket last year, but this has been my experience & maybe not for him, let's hope it's a cheap fix & gets it done quick since its his DD.

Gotcha. I was thinking about a CEL saying headgasket. But I get it that complications from the HG can cause a CEL.

of course not, but symptoms plus codes can direct you to HG. Did he ever say if it was burning oil?

Did he ever report back to Memory what he saw after draining the oil?

It doesn't seem like he's done any diagnostic work yet :what:

Thanks for your help guys/girls, I took it to my mechanic, they ran a compression test, and cylinder 3 is shot, piston is broken and ring is done. He said to just replace block, it would be easier then to repair my block, is that true?

I guess I have to look for a shop that sells b16a2 block...just curious, would I be able to use a b18c1, b18c5, b18c block, like a bolt on?

This really sucks since it's my DD and I have no job because of attending business school full time :(

That really sucks, I'm sorry :( I know how that goes.

Yes I would highly recommend replacing the block. Because chances are if the piston is broken, it would have massively scored the cylinder walls. However, you could pull off the head and look. But if the mechanics said yes then I would, but I would still want to look. And yes if you wanted to get a GSR or Type R block it would bolt right up. B series to B series.

Then you can have a Poor Mans R ;)

You COULD just replace that piston and ring, but there going to be alot of labor man.

YOu can get a brand new assembled block from Honda.

dude get a cheap b20 block which should be the cheapest, new head studs, new head gasket, and ls vtec kit. You'll have more power than you b16 and it shouldnt be that expensive. If not sell the head to me and you can buy a single cam to put in it with the money you sell the head for.

It will not be cheap unless you know someone that can pull the engine for you. I would suggest taking the block to a machine shop and let them look at it to determine if it can be honed/bored. That is of course if your visible inspection beforehand looks okay.
As far as a shop selling b16/b18c blocks, probably not gonna happen unless your talking online. I have an EM1 and had the similar issue with burning oil, throwing codes. Swapped in a b18c from hmotors, not cheap. Check Craigslist ads in your area. You might get lucky. Good luck.

Really, man? You don't put a single cam in an EM1. WTF?
