Illegal?

I just took my car for inspection and they said my headlights and taillights were illegal and I have to have them swapped for ones with an amber turn signal, also they took my windshield banner off because it could be a distraction. Is it really illegal?

Review your states vehicle laws. If they say it is, it is. Every state requires a blinker to blink in amber (though some are laxed and you'll usually never get more than a warning unless you live in a inspection state) and most will require the actual lens to be amber as well (meaning no clear corner lights). Same with the windshield banner. Even a tint strip on the windshield is illegal in most every state.

Just get OEM lights from a junk yard/craigslist, put them on, pass inspection, then swap them back to what you like better. Problem solved.

why not check your state laws/call around. Why ask the opinion of a car forum? Your lack of knowledge on your state laws is what got you into it, so figure it out. I venture to guess if the people that do inspections every day say its illegal then I would assume they are indeed illegal. Common sense here....

Go to the sketchy side of town that you try to avoid and get your car inspected there

Like it was said before, laws vary state to state.

Here in NY you can have up to a 6" banner on the top of your windshield. I've never paid much attention to turn signals though. I know my bulbs are amber and the headlight cover itself is clear. The inside of the headlight has a small piece of amber reflective piece next to the turn signal.

Turn signals have to be amber. I know this because I was also pulled over for that lol. That's why I have red/white tails... with amber bulbs. Looks meh but oh well.

You should be able to just get amber bulbs and be fine unless you have really dark lights or something.
