I started on an R6 and I've been riding for 2 yrs now. Put 15k miles on my docket and I've had no issues

Exactly. I do completely agree that classes/some form of experience on a small bike is always ideal, but you don't HAVE to ride a gutless bike for years to be comfortable on a faster/bigger bike... that's like saying you better wear sandals for three years before you wear shoes!!

But I did do a lot of dirt riding for a few years before hand so it wasn't the first 2 wheeler I've ever been on

And I took the basic rider course to get my cycle endorsement

Follow up with them in a few days if you don't hear back!!! Good luck man, you need that change of pay/scenery!
Well thankfully a good friend of mine works for the company and his father is the project manager. So I've got an ear to the inside. It's looking good but we'll just have to wait and see. This will double my pay, and I'll be in a field with room to move up and make some grown man money. :thumbs up

Following up on a post I made this past Monday.

In memorial to the families of the driver and passenger involved in the accident at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway this past weekend, there's a donation fund setup to help the families. Please take a moment to share the link on Facebook and make a donation, no matter what the size, it all helps.
This is a major tragedy in the racing community across the country, but especially for us in California.

Donate: http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/fundraising-for-the-family-of-chelsea-vu-and-jayden-lam/55575

You're also smart and respectful about it; that's the biggest key to riding.

Some people are also just better riders than others naturally; much the same with driving.

Riiiiiggghhtttt. Cause insurance rates on shoes are high because of the statistics surrounding kids and fatal accidents....

Best friend's dad is a retired fire chief and I have seen too many nasty wreck pics of teenagers and young guys/girls that started out on a bike they shouldn't have or got in over their head because they didn't learn proper control like they should have from a smaller bike and working up.

Not to say that older/experienced riders don't lay down or get into accidents, it's just the statistics for younger inexperienced riders is significantly higher. It could be dramatically changed if it were a requirement to learn on a smaller SLOWER bike and learn how to ride correctly before stepping up.

It is the ego that can get you the most in these situations and the fact that these new bikes are extremely unforgiving.

Ever been around the new guy that bought a liter bike and has no clue what he is doing, yet wants to drag a knee and keep up with the big boys? Not a fun situation to be in when he goes down. Then again, not fun to be around any situation where someone goes down.

Jesus that is just insane. I don't understand why states wouldn't have these laws.

The UK has it right; hense the better drivers and less deaths a year. They don't allow you to get a license until a later age too, with longer driving permits than the US has.

I think that's a fantastic idea that they restrict your bike upon your experience and testing. Everyone knows a bike of any sort is dangerous, so why put yourself at MORE risk when it's not necessary?
Also in the UK there are different licenses for different sized bikes. you want to ride a bigger bike u have to get a license for it. and they're bigger with gear while riding and allowing bikes to split lanes which is a safer way to ride if the biker is responsible and the non bikers are actually aware of bikers and not on their smartphone just not paying attention to anything.

the argument against the helmet law here is that it's harder to see around you or that the helmet somehow makes it harder to hear things happening around you. but you can't hear anything but the wind at speed and i find it easier to see with a helmet on because it blocks the wind from blowing in my eyes. as well as protects me from road debris.
Then again, not fun to be around any situation where someone goes down.
go down in full gear and unless you slide into something hard you'll probably be able to get up with all your skin still attached and not be a bloody mess on the road.

if you want to know what gear you need then ask yourserlf "what pieces of your body do you want to keep?"

LOL! I've held back on a couple threads I've seen. I can be mean still, don't worry.

let's just say I'm pretty content with life right, and don't feel like giving idiots my attention.

Not sure how it is up there, but I know here you have to at least some type of eye protection on if you opt out of wearing a helmet. I just love seeing the idiots with their helmet strapped under the rear seat, but just riding w/o it.

If I was back in Key West, I wouldn't see one as a necessity as highest speed is 35mph and you usually aren't even going that fast or not for long. But up here or especially when I move to Miami, you'd be crazy not to use one.

35mph is still fast. i don;t think you would run at a full sprint and dive onto your face would you? and that's probably under 10mph. you should always wear a helmet and gear.

Full sprint I'm at about 18mph according to those speed box things on the side of the road

I usually only rode without one when cruising the strip back home, so 5mph tops. Mainly feathering the clutch or just walking it depending on the time of year. I just meant I wouldn't be as concerned compared to a real city. In my eyes it's always been pay attention to everyone and everything around me, anticipate peoples next move when possible and leave big enough gaps to react.

You are preaching to the choir, man. I never went out without full gear. I didn't wear my full leathers unless going to the mountain roads or a long freeway run, but around town I had at the least helmet, gloves, boots, leather Icon or alpinestarz jacket, and kevlar lined riding jeans.

Lowsided at the track when I was 22. I remember touching my knee and then seconds later, sliding. At one point while sliding, I thought it was over so I set my hand down and pushed off as you do when you go to stand up...I wasn't done sliding. I ended up fracturing my wrist and had a sore neck. Was lucky that was all of the damage. My helmet was scratched on the left and the leathers were rashed. I couldn't even imagine if it would have happened without gear. That is when I vowed to never ride on the street without gear as well. You just never know when or what is going to happen and it is better safe than sorry.

Today went to work, now at home surfing cc and the net. Turn and burn to do it all over again tomorrow....
