Clean material and perfect prep work will guarantee strong welds.
i find this debatable. you can take metal straight from the store or garage and weld it and be fine as long as its not all rusty

fusion and penetration are what determines the strength, and in forms other then mig the tensile strength of the filler rod is a factor.

a sign of telling if you dont have the proper fusion and penetration is if the edges are rolled looking and dont flow fluidly into the base metal. its referred to as a cold weld

Cold lap*
But Chris is more correct, oily or painted metal will not weld correctly, will cause porosity and discontinuities that effect strength and appearance of a weld.
Proper amperage and voltage, technique, gas CFM, proper gas, wire selection are the biggest factors.
Ground clamp placement can be critical as well.
Welders also have a duty cycle. (The amount a welder can continuously weld in a 10 min period)
Lots of factors.

Ive often wondered many times if i should take the build off of this site just because i dont think it is appreciated. But i keep it for the few that ask questions and really care what im doing or y i am doing it.
your build is the only reason I still get on this site.

There's almost zero support for a 9th gen civic on here so I come and read your thread and go onto more 9th gen specific sites
