Man, I would like a Snell approved helmet but I'm having a hard time finding them at a decent price, my color and size.

I *believe* Rob has a hook up on that. Lemme find out for you. =) I know he got his dirt cheap.

EDIT: Your bday isn't too far away. Ask for that for your bday! Yes, it's towards the end of riding season, but at least you'll have the winter to have it airbrushed if you want!

Cheap out on a helmet? Why the hell would you do that? It is the ONLY thing between your head and the road when you go down. I wouldn't even look in the direction of a helmet that wasn't fully certified.

My opinion, if you can't afford full gear then you shouldn't be riding. I was fully stocked before I even started riding. Let me guess you guys ride in shorts, t shirts, and tennis shoes... Yikes. I hope my hunch isn't true.

This. If you ride in jeans and a t-shirt, you deserve to have your skin strewn about the road. RIDE IN FULL GEAR.

I thought of flip flops.
I'll admit, I used to backpack bikes in flip flops and cute little shorts/tanks when I was in college. I was also really stupid then, and would hop on the back of anyone who had a bike. Now I won't get on with anyone unless I've seen their riding styles extensively and know they've ridden for a long time.

I love the people that say they wear whatever they want when they ride in town, but put gear or 'more clothes' on when on the freeway. Last I checked, a road at ANY mile per hour hurt when falling onto it.

Here ya go Alex. Yours is $681.

The one that I tried to order is Snell certified, but they're all on backorder/unavailable.

I ride in jeans, riding boots (my horse riding boots from back in the day ), a leather jacket and gloves.

That's super expensive. Holy s**t.

I honestly don't know why as I don't know you outside of here, but I am very happy to hear that.

Jeans will shred on the pavement but they are better than nothing. I used to ride in jeans unless I knew I was going to drag a knee or going to the track (of course as you can't wear jeans at that track). Difference is I wore draggin' jeans (think that is the spelling?) that were specifically for riding. They are lined with kevlar and have extra protection in the hips and knee areas.

I used to ride without gloves until a bug (or possibly a rock thrown up from another car) hit my knuckle one day and split it open almost to the bone. Was nasty and from then on, I alway wore gloves.

If you don't mind me asking, what helmets are you looking at? I know a dude that does reviews on helmets for a magazine and I can run them by and see what he says. What color/style?

Expensive is just a word when it comes to protecting your head. I would guess that your head/life is worth a hell of a lot more than that price tag. Right?

No you're totally right, but if it's Snell certified I don't see what the big deal is.

I've been looking at Icon, Scorpion, and this one Cyber helmet.

It's amazing how many people don't know that most state laws require you to turn on your headlights in weather conditions that make you use your windshield wipers. People are absolutely oblivious. I was just on the expressway and in a 65mph zone... You don't see the cars without their headlights on until they're like less than 30 feet in front of you. At those speeds or faster and in inclement weather, it can get dangerous. And you flash these people and they still don't turn on their headlights. Absolutely amazing. I don't know how so many people have their drivers licenses.

Another one that bothers the f*** out of me is when you turn onto a 2-lane road and some people go directly to the outer lane without going to the inner lane first and signaling over. Again, illegal.

I had a guy follow me into a parking lot and threaten to beat me up because I went into the closest lane and then signaled over.

I guess I'm one of the ones that rides with just gloves and a helmet, when I had someones bike to use.
Sometimes wore the jacket but only if it was cold out. Hell, sometimes just sunglasses instead of a helmet.
Shorts/jeans, chucks is what I used to wear...insert flame comments about not being tracked out for a short ride around town.

Finally off work. Enjoying the gloominess that Andrea is pouring on us and the good stuff isn't even here yet.

I'm to short to ride a bike unless I had a custom chopper built or something lowered/stretched but then I would still be wearing a helmet and gear. All of this talk makes me think of Shane...
