Finding a place with no credit or bad credit is easy now. Hello... the economy crashed and homeowners fell into apartments. Guidelines for renting aren't as strict now but rates are up due to demand. Most due criminal checks though and will request anywhere from 1 month to 6 months bank statements and pay stubs.

My place is 1200 a month total for a 1 bedroom. It did NOT cost me 2-3000 to move. A lot of complexes have deposits anywhere from 100 to 500 security deposit plus 1st months rent. But there are some places that require deposits matching rent.

It cost me 1025 for 1st months rent, 400 deposit, which 300 of it is refundable. The other 100 is non refundable pet.

Roommates help a ton when moving out for the 1st time.

If you're not making enough money to pay the bills consistently, then you shouldn't move out.
That's true, but I want to have a roommate I can trust so I can move out and the bills won't be so much.

It can be hard if you don't have credit. If you have long-term employment, good standing credit history, and a good debt-to-income ratio, it's not bad.

I've been with my company for 5 months now, so of course I'll need more time to have a long term employment.

Bingo. Also, don't forget about deposit + first month's rent. It cost me $3500 to move into my house, not including purchasing furniture, new toys etc. It's expensive, but if you prepare you'll be good to go.
Damn 3500$? Are you leasing or buying?

you will want way more than that. I wish that's all I needed, I need about 40-60k

but I realized today the credit union I'm part of my work actually owns, so that helps

This 2-3k I speak of is so I can be comfortable when moving out and not have to stress about if I have enough or not, but I'm always gonna be needing more money. Everyone does.

I'm talking leasing a house, not an apartment. Apartments around here are significantly less, and as I stated, I live in a more expensive area (on purpose.. nicer houses/yards, much better community, hardly any crime at all). A roommate is a huge help though.. my roommate has lived with me for four and a half years, through two different homes. He's awesome, and we both trust each other more than we trust some of our family members

Yep. $3500. Deposit (which was first month's rent) + first month's rent. I didn't take into account getting utilities put into my name and started (none were in my name before). That was a cool $800 or so ($200 for electric, $250 for gas, $300 for water + trash). I was refunded for electric and gas, and water + trash will be credited whenever I move again, so that's awesome, but still. s**t was expensive man.

Saving a cushion is a great idea, but do NOT let your roommates/potential roommates know you have it. They will (usually) take advantage of that, and ask you to float all of the deposits etc. It sucks.

I too live upscale. $1025 is just my rent for a 1 bedroom with attached private garage, and as of August 1st it increases to $1045. That's no water sewer trash utilities. ...nothing.

I trust my friends more than my family. Especially since my cousin was having me pay her bills as well as other family while she blew her money on drugs. Snd her deadbeat husband hasn't had a job in years due to drugs and jail. Ugh...she's the only screw up in the family.

You must live in a nice community, and I'm not thinking of letting my roommates know of that cushion. Except my best friend if I move out with him into a leasing situation. I trust him with my life, so I know he wont take advantage of it.

$2250/month and my place is a small dump and I live in the ghetto. My town's cost of living is higher than NYC, S.F., and Hawaii by far. Nothing here is cheap.

We pay $1200, which is great for this area (only a 3b 2bth house, and it's a bit older, although modernized). We only got this deal because the homeowner really wanted to get someone in this house, and we low-balled him :D

Eeeesh.. drugs are terrible.

It is really nice. One of the most coveted sections in a 100 mile or so radius (no joke).

OUCH man. Don't you get some sort of tax break/credit for living up there? I heard a rumor about that... We almost moved into a big ass house that was $2300, glad we didn't, as my roommate lost his job (although has a bunch of money saved cause he's a smart dude, unlike me). With all my bills, I'd be s**t out of luck covering the rent if he bailed. As of now, I can pay for this place on my own, but I will have no money...

Everyone that lives in Alaska for one whole year, the following year you can claim your "permanent tax dividend" check. It changes every year based on how much oil the state produced. Alaska has been slowing down A LOT over the years so it's not what it used to be. I didn't qualify last year because I just moved here but I will qualify this year. Last years check was around $1200 for every man/woman/child.

Not a big deal though. It's hardly a drop in the bucket compared to the over all cost of living. I'm the sole source of income for my family and luckily my job pays me a solid 6 figure income. Still..... Is that worth living in a town that sees weeks/months of -40 or colder? .. i'm thinking not. Imagine this... It's WARMER in your kitchen freezer than it is outside from Nov-April. If you get frostbite on your way to the car, you can literally warm yourself up sitting inside your kitchen freezer.

Is that worth $100,000/year? What about $150,000/year? ... It's a hard life up here. Not many people stay and I may be one of them.

Houses like that in my neighborhood go for $2000 all day long, and higher.

Just did the math. With all utilities it's $1305/m and with insurance it's $1319.45/m. For a 1 friggin bedroom. I hate it. But we like our 13 foot high ceilings, 42 inch cabinets in the kitchen, modern appliances, fixtures, finishes, the middle of the city, and our private climate controlled garage. Garages don't exist in St Louis apartments. ..so we'll stay until we find the perfect home.
