Location, price, etc. It's all a factor.
$500 is dirt cheap

Yeah, I got it for a great price. It was foreclosed but wasn't trashed like all the other foreclosed houses I had looked at.

Honestly never heard, I thought it was one of those "boring" states that had nothing to offer.

We have quite a big car scene up here and its a very active state with lots of stuff always going on. We gotta entertain ourselves somehow.

Feel free to crash here man

how does that feel? Mine is separated and my wife says that she can barely hear me working on my car, can you hear any noise inside the house since it is attached?
You can but mine is also under my bedrooms so that probably doesn't help. I live alone so it doesn't really matter anyway.

I love where I live. 3 bedroom, 2 living room 1.5 bath, 2 car garage, big yard. 450 a month. About 850 after utilities.
Jesus, why are your utilities so high? My electric is about 130 every month. I of course don't leave anything on and my thermostat is programmed to only run at 70 degrees from 5pm to 730am.

Everyone that lives in Alaska for one whole year, the following year you can claim your "permanent tax dividend" check. It changes every year based on how much oil the state produced. Alaska has been slowing down A LOT over the years so it's not what it used to be. I didn't qualify last year because I just moved here but I will qualify this year. Last years check was around $1200 for every man/woman/child.

Not a big deal though. It's hardly a drop in the bucket compared to the over all cost of living. I'm the sole source of income for my family and luckily my job pays me a solid 6 figure income. Still..... Is that worth living in a town that sees weeks/months of -40 or colder? .. i'm thinking not. Imagine this... It's WARMER in your kitchen freezer than it is outside from Nov-April. If you get frostbite on your way to the car, you can literally warm yourself up sitting inside your kitchen freezer.

Is that worth $100,000/year? What about $150,000/year? ... It's a hard life up here. Not many people stay and I may be one of them.
Ouch... yeah man... That's a lot of money.. I'd consider working it temporarily to save money, then move on. Crazy man!

Houses like that in my neighborhood go for $2000 all day long, and higher.

Just did the math. With all utilities it's $1305/m and with insurance it's $1319.45/m. For a 1 friggin bedroom. I hate it. But we like our 13 foot high ceilings, 42 inch cabinets in the kitchen, modern appliances, fixtures, finishes, the middle of the city, and our private climate controlled garage. Garages don't exist in St Louis apartments. ..so we'll stay until we find the perfect home.

Yeah, in this neighborhood, the average is $3000. We're about a block away from the lake, but if we were on it, this same house would be significantly more. We just got lucky to find a rental in the area we are. About 5-6 blocks over is "rental alley", and the houses are gross, and around the price range we're paying.

One of the other stipulations to our rent being as low as it is, is that we have to maintain the yard.. lots of trees, and grass. Not a big deal, though.

WOW. My electric bill for next month is $210. It's on average 108 degrees here daily, and we have our A/C set at 76-78 most of the time (usually it's off between 9am and 5pm weekly). My utilities are $420 total on average.

So anyway... Now that we all know who pays what to live where..

I'm leaving for training next month (Louisiana and Texas) so I wanted to get back into shape before I left. Last year I was down to 146ish (I forget exactly) and 9.4% body fat. I'm a natural runner and usually place top 5 at every 5k I go to (Ran 23 events last year). But since I got into buying/selling Honda's I stopped running for exactly a year. Last time I turned on my running app was on July 5th 2012, a week after I moved into my current house with a two car garage.

As soon as I found out what day I was flying out, I hit the pavement again. About 3 weeks ago I was 182. Last night I hit 169 and i'm hoping to drop 10 more pounds by Aug 1 when i'm getting ready to fly out. Being fat sucks :(

So yeah... That's what i'm doing today. Losing weight :thumbs up
