I think that's a smart move. If the tires are ok currently, just keep that money. Oh man.....freshman. you will blow money so fast wven when you say you won't. And somehow you'll be flat broke but still get things.

Sometimes I miss college.....

I hope i wont haha. Im only going to be working so i can get gas money to visit family.

thats where experience comes in to play, and did you take out your center console stuff when doing this?

electric tape works also. mark where it needs to rest and wrap the s**t out of shifter there

me too, its only been a few months but i already miss it. i love to learn though and working 7 days a week gets old, though finally making good money is nice
I have actually been stupid this entire time. If I unbolt the end shaft bushing, the whole bar will drop giving me access to the top of the plate. It took two weeks, and an image on Google for me to figure that out, so of it doesn't pour tomorrow, I'll hopefully get these bushings in finally. Which method is better/easier for when o have to take things apart again? I'll try the tape.

best method since those bushings can be a real b***h is to remove the linkage completely from the car except for the part with the b***h pin that attaches to the trans. the rest should come right out and then you dont have to work under the car. also would remove the center console to get the rubber back on

that is if you are putting the short shifter in, other wise just replace the bushings

I'm just replacing bushings, which only involves taking the extension bar out with both the bushings, since you can't get the transmission side bushing in without a little bit of persuasion outside the car. (BFH, Feet, Yelling, screaming)

I will not have to toucht the b**** pin since I am not removing the linkage at all. In fact, the only thing I deal with the linkage for, is removing the bolt from the bottom of the actual shifter.

Never understood why people have such an issue with that pin, had it out in three mins and back in even faster.

Did my NRG bushings last weekend, helps so damn much.

I don't know. I've never touched let alone took apart the b***h pin part of the linkage so I wouldn't know.

Threw some electrical tape around the shifter. Hope it's tight enough. I had to add more because it slipped right off as soon as I put it into first gear.

Man that thing sits high. I'll have to snap a pic of mine. Only my knob sits above the console.

It's still the stock shifter. I can't drop the money on a $100 shifter right now, and I don't want to put the one I have in because it feels cheap and easily snapable. I'm trying to finish up my tuneup before I move into school. I still have to get my dizzy cap and rotor, wires, and air filter and then change my oil one more time. I drove this car over 3000 miles since I got it in june, and I absolutely love the thing. While I'm at school, I'm hoping to do timing belt and water pump, as well as maybe do the head gasket too while I am at it that way 184,000 miles will seem like 100k.

Jesus slow down on the mileage. Yea they last but who wants a high mileage car?

And even with a short throw it won't necessarily lower the shifter. Not to the extreme of mine anyhow. My short throw is cut down as well.

What do you mean? If it's properly maintained, it should last well over the 200K mark, and I'm sure after I get out of school, the same engine won't be in or it'll have a rebuild done on it.

Some short shifters I was looking at lower the knob about 3" which is perfectly fine with me. I too think it sits awfully high, and the shift boot looks weird sitting snug up underneath the knob.

What's hard to understand? Why rack up mileage? Why not try to keep it as pristine as possible?

And jesus today sucks. My posts aren't making much sense after reading what you quoted me.

...the f**k is the point of a shifter that has a 2mm throw range!?

It's his daily. I doubt he's concerned about mileage/resell value.

A friend cut it down too much. I didn't want it this short. It's been this way for years. ....never bothered switching it out.

I know everyone says this, but i dont plan on getting rid of it anytime in the near future. I drive it everyday, took it down to delaware already, couple times near philly and king of Prussia, and drove up to school with it along with just driving with friends. It gets excellent gas mileage. 30 city/35-40 highway, so why not drive it? It handles well and doesn't feel like it has 184k on the clock.

I will keep up with the maintenance, and baby it like I do now. I'm getting over my spirited driving phase (I know what I've been missing now haha) so I'm gonna granny drive it like I did the other one.

Yup. I don't plan on reselling anytime soon. I love the car. Paint is my only complaint with it.

That sucks. I drove a 350z that had a super short shifter. It made the car a b***h to drive. There's no way I'd have that in there.

What's your thoughts on those 350z's?
