Engine knock/tick in morning

In regards to the ticking, I can hear it now when just driving/idling. But it was definitely more pronounced in the morning.

Best way I can describe it is it sounds like an old engine that's seen some miles lol

Should I be concerned? I plan on changing the fuel filter tomorrow.

Install that new fuel filter, drive around a little, then let us know if its still doing it. Let loose an unimpeded fuel flow before you decide to worry.

Ok so I don't if it's related but my car for the first time ever just stumbled a little at a red light. It was a quick loss of power and it corrected itself. It's been driving fine though, since my exhaust rattle fix a couple days ago I've noticed 1 out of 10 times it'll hesitate briefly a mere second if I give it gas while coasting. Coincidence?

Yes it may be coincidental. Again, a congested fuel filter impedes fuel flow which can lead to shakes, stumbles, etc. since flow isnt constant. Change that b*tch already!.. then we'll talk.

Also I have one of those wifi obd2 scanners so I can monitor sensors/fuel trim if it'll help. Just let me know

I dont know enough to make suggestions using that although Im confident theres a good use for that in this situation. Just keep in mind that every one of your issues is affected by fuel delivery and yours must be impeded with that old filter. I feel its a waste of time to consider anything else until you change it.

You definitely need to change the fuel filter. A clogged fuel filter impedes fuel delivery. If youre on an old one, its almost a guarantee that the shakes will disappear once you change it. Whomever told you not to change it should not be listened to again. Change it every 15k-20K miles to ensure youre not running clogged. Its a $20 part, so its worth changing regularly.
Every 15-20k miles for a big fuel filter like that? Thats once a year! I think that change interval is meant for for those little tiny inline fuel filters on old carberated engines... The 7th gen civic doesn't even have a replaceable filter, just the sock on the pickup tube. I have a similar sized fuel filter on my other car, i changed it once soon after i bought it and that one had about 140k miles on it and i could blow through it not too bad. I changed it again when i was having idling issues 125k miles later and i could blow through that easy. Made no difference to change it. I gas up at the cheapest places, have put gas in from farm storage tanks, year old gas from gerry cans in, run the tank dry several times...
I think the OP should for sure change the filter, always change it when you have problems, its easy, but i dont think you need to do it every 6months or every year is all. If changing the filter helps then cut it apart. Look to see if its rust or if its dirt. If your gas tank is rusted out and plugging the filter you could go through a pile of filters quickly, easier to change the tank or even just flush it then.

Ok so my car started flashing check engine light and it's saying cylinder 3 misfire. Don't think the filter is the problem here

Hmm so I swapped plug wires 3 and 1 and it was running even worse. Swapped them back and now she's running perfect.

Should I replace the wires? They're little over a year old ngk wires or maybe the connection was lost somehow?

Wow So I went to advanced auto bc I have a lifetime warranty on the wires. Somehow, their computer said I had returned them in April of 2014. So the guy thinks I'm trying to scam them and only allowed a swap of the #3 wire.

Wtf why would I return a lifetime part and also they're installed in my car so how'd I return them? Lol

So now I replaced the bad wire but what if another goes bad bc it's a bad set or something. So ridiculous

Dancam, you must drive alot if you average close to 20k miles a year. I cant speak for 7th gen Civics but as for typical cars with that syle of fuel filters, I know they can go for 3-4 years of use or longer. I stated earlier that at such an inexpensive cost of around $20 its worth it to do it around 15k-20k miles. thats just a suggestion not a rule. There can be many exceptions, but its a method I try to employ for peace of mind. If it cost $80 it'd be a different story.

You should state that clearly someone in that store allowed for another person to errantly use your warranty without proof and thats not your problem. He has no right to accuse you without any proof. Its not like you're requesting new free parts. Its an exchange. I'd argue to hell until he gave me the complete set or go to another Advance to get them (which you can do) and still report that other store. I've never heard of a warranty only covering one wire. Im confident he's a shiesty manager. Man, I'd be contacting a regional manager if not corporate immediately.

As for the issue, it may be a faulty wire or a loose connection in the wire, or the wire wasn't seated well enough. Get that new set and switch that fuel filter and update us. Good luck with those fools.

Ok so replaced fuel filter and the car does seem to have a slightly smoother idle. Less shaking than before though not completely gone but enough to notice an improvement.

I am however still experiencing that ticking/knocking noise.

Also am I good with just that #3 wire replaced? I might keep it till I do a tune up in a year and just try advanced again playing dumb about this little incident

Might be time to check it again.

It's also getting colder out, very common for cars to start getting valvetrain noise and piston slap in colder weather.

Yeah it's when the car has been sitting for a while where it's more noticeable. Even on acceleration can hear it.

When I accelerate while the car is cold. It's still there when it's warmed up just not as audible

Yeah, the lashing is where I would start after a good tune up which is something you probably need anyway. Pinging would be happening when the engine is warm under acceleration, same with a rod knock.

Pinging and rod knocks only happen on a warm engine?

I tuned it up last April. And changed fuel filter today
