I love my RSX =) Very happy with it, easyish to work on (clutch change requires taking the subframe out), but 182k miles and only ever had minor issues with it. And I have a 1st gen 02. I would recommend, if looking for an RSX, to go with a 05-06. Get a Type-S too ;)

That sucks man. I did that in the fall (totally my fault), but it landed on the frame slider and all was good. I keep a crushed aluminum can under my seat just in case I need to park on asphalt on a hot day.

Yep! Autocross isn't a high speed event. For me, most of the time is spent in 2nd gear. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend much in terms of engine mods. If anything, you'll want to focus on suspension and braking.

Not entirely true. Stiff (shorter) sidewall means less flex. More (taller) sidewall means more flex. More flex means the patch of tire on the road will stick longer, and get a bit more lateral load out of it. Of course, many other factors come into play. Suspension setup, tire pressure, wheels...
