Yeah, searching that model on the Googs, there's a bunch of people having overheating issues with it. Definitely spray it out with some canned air. Make sure the fan is even working. A good way to test, download a program called HMonitor, which reads the HDD and CPU temps. Let your laptop...

What model? It may just be that it's overheating. I know for certain models, such as a Dell E6400, they are PRONE to overheating. Intel chips use clock modulation, which detects the overheating and significantly turns down the processor speed. You have an AMD chip but I'm sure they have...
