hello everyone i am new to the forums, i am not sure if this location is okay so moderators feel free to move if necessary. Ive spent my time scouring for other peoples builds on their civic trunks but haven't found much luck, Ive taken periodic pics of my build it will continue to be a work in progress. i hope that my methods as they are a testament that i am a novice in fiberglass fabrication but will help others as they customize their cars. my build in particular has grown into what it is now through trial and error and all began with my passion for car audio. i began with the intent to do a clean floor and a custom sub woofer box using the spare tire well and a baffle for the top, since then Ive changed my expectations and tweaked my vision of the outcome. the one thing that hasn't changed is the expectations of a clean look and full functionality while utilizing all available space for components and maintaining cargo room. as soon as i figure out how to upload the pictures i will be posting them starting with my speaker box build as it is the focal point and the first piece i successfully completed using fiberglass. in the mean time feel free to join this thread and share your own works for others to see and learn from your own methods or just criticize me for mine.

this is the left panel looking in from the rear of the car this is how i got the basic shape of my panel

this is a good shot of both panels one side taped ready for adhesive and matting and the right side glassed

this is how the tape turned out on the left side before glass

this is a close up of the right panel after it was glassed

this is how i braced the dowel i used to keep it from bowing while i layed my glass

this is a look from the back seat at the driver side panel once it was taped

this is a closer look at the passenger panel from the inside

this is a close look from the inside at the passenger panel glassed

this is the passenger panel with the extension and the rack im mounting above the speaker

this is the same panel without the mdf rack the mounting was a pain in the @ss

this is the driver side panel without the rack

this is the same panel with the rack

Host some bigger pictures! I can't read the text. I'm really interested to see this build, as I'm considering doing some of the same things.

thanks guys i appreciate the comments i definitely need to post bigger pics tho lol sorry about that and the glass work isnt too hard as long as you work with it and plan ahead the custom panels ive recently made using tape as a back has to be the most complex thing ive done using glass and i didnt even know if it would work the way i wanted it to, i had to use spray adhesive to lay the chopped matting and making sure to shingle the 1x1- 1x2 pieces i then pressed my glass soaked brush as i went and smoothed out any pieces that began jutting out. i think its a good start and i wish that i had the funds for a 5 gallon bucket of resin but ive been doing a little bit at a time so that i could get something done with my project so ive been using all purpose glass hopefully in the near future ill be getting some better resin so i can see some better looking results and the panels will be worked over with body filler and worked smooth i havnt decided whether i should ad some dimension to the panels or not suggestions are welcome

hey i just started my own project with my trunk, and im glad u started this thread cause i have only been playing with small speaker pods, i would very much like to know how u did the main box part? if u know what i mean, if u could have pics then have the explanation under the pic in this thread. i am VERY VERY interested in your Technique cause i dont have any idea what im doing haha.

i have spent $2100 AUD in audio gear, not including wiring or anything like that just speakers and amps and head unit and want to have the install as good as the equipment. which mean i need to look at panel vibration, have u looked at that with your build? if so can u let me know what kinda stuff u have done.

i have a basic 1 sub set up and i get number plate vibration and bumper stripe on the driver side rattles too.

i have a 98 EK hatch and will be looking forward to your reply.

chhers Justin.

panel vibration hasnt been a main focus of mine since im not done with the panels in the trunk and my woofer is underpowered at the moment, i did however use 3m undercoating on the trunk pan for a start and im researching sound dampening materials right now cuz that will be done in the near future, the sub enclosure has been a work in progress for about a year now and i dont have pics of the original layout but i have my own design drawings i can scan them and post along with the pics from above(bigger of course) and explain the progression in the build. my enclosure is specific to my car due to the sub flooring i created in order to elevate and secure the flat panel floor of my original plans, my enclosure is kind of an accident due to this but it turned out well in my opinion. it will take a day or two to post the bigger pics and everything else.
