Alright einstein answer me this. Lets say i start out with a 14 inch steelie from the factory and i want to upgrade to a 16 inch rim, how big of sidewall would i need to not change the diamater of the wheel/tire. What about for 17 inch?Mr. Lin said:10 mm = 1 cm... not roughly an inch.
17 inch there is basically no way to not change the diameter - on 16's the 40 sidewall is almost exact. The 40 is too small and 45 is too big. It is right in the middle, so we cannot buy a tire like that.FhCRubarb said:Alright einstein answer me this. Mr. Lin said:The lowest you could go on a 16" rim is a 205/40/16 tire which would give you a 3.228" sidewall.
The lowest you could go on a 17" rim is a 205/40/17 tire which would give you a 3.228" sidewall, but with an extra inch of rim.
edit: those are both based on 205mm treadwidths.
I know I'm rightCFactor said:exactly right - I would definately go with 16s man. Less rotational mass and if all things are equal my car with 16s could handle the absolute f**k of my car with 17s. Plus I can drop it how I want it and not really worry about much rubbing
