Automatics and turbos work great together. Look at the Grand Nationals.

Welcome to page two. ;)

As I said before though, a Civic is not very comparable to a Grand Nat.

Yeah, Turbo diesel...and their EOD transmissions SUCK BALLS!

besides if you ever drove a N/A International/Navistar disease-el Ford truck you'd know why they are turbo.

My wife's PT Cruiser is turbo and automatic. It has lag issues that aren't as apparent in the SRT/4 with the same motor.
Stomp on it and it goes 1000 rpm....................2000..........3000.....40006000 b***h!!!! It whips through 5 so fast it may as well not even be there. If you are going to use the AutoStick you might wanna slap it at 4 or so. If you wait on 6 it'll be too late.

Thats where your wrong... It DOES NOT loose the purpose. sure it'd be slow if it was like a 96 EX automatic with just a turbo slapped on, But you must not forget most of the fastest drag cars are automatic. About 800 bucks more i could have a auto GSR tranny builtup by our local tranny shop (Don Irby trans) with a setup like mine running just as fast as my car if not faster.

But you must not forget that this thread is not about Grand Nationals or turbo diesels or drag cars. This is about some guy telling the poster that he had a turbo auto or something.

He wanted to know if it was possible. As you can get from this thread.. it is. Case closed, question answered, this needs a lock.

Reread the last holf of my post... I said MY car, which is a Daily driver honda civic. That if I did an auto GSR swap, for 800 bucks it would be just as fast if not faster since traction would be better. I doubt this would work for a d-series auto... since IMO D-series are all that great, & the auto tranny on them really suck all around.

I think he was meaning if you had a built tranny you'd have custom gears and his first would be long enough not to spin?

just a guess.

Don't confuse gearing with traction. Besides the first ratio in most automatics is roughly equivalent to the same car with a manual's 2nd gear ratio already.

Stock for stock yes but we jumped back to build up tranny topic so really in a full drag car with auto tons of boost etc you'd have gearing done out to assit traction and still be short enough to zip along.

Right now we all are right 8)
