wether it be a BOV of a bypass valve it doesnt matter. as long as there is something to relieve the charge pressure when you come off the throttle. a BOV can be a bypass valve if hooked up right. a bypass valve puts the charge pressure back into the intake on the turbo. almost the same as an equalizer. a BOV just puts the air our into the atmosphere and makes a noise doing it.

heres a good video of compressor surge and the benifits of a bov

:word: This is the definition of compressor surge. :thumbs up
and compressor surge is bad.
not as bad as you think, on 5lbs he will be able to daily for YEARS with no problems, he'll probably NEVER have a probelem caused by surge

^^ 100% correct!!

not only hurts power, but will deff hurt the turbo!!

ask yourself this " have u ever sneezed and covered your mouth shut?".. you will blow your nose to pieces and your ears will pop!! lol

GET A BOV, don't be cheap/lazy!
does NOT hurt your power, it actually helps keep you in boost.

I wouldn't bother with 5psi.
:werd: if you already had one great, but if you dont i wouldnt worry about it. compressor surge sounds WAY cooler than any bov

And it also allows your engine to drop revs faster, and helps to dissipate heat from the turbo.
thats the worst arguement ive ever heard.

basicly the air is being pushed in the engine and then when you let off the throttle and the throttle plate closes it has no where to go but back to the turbo. That air will try and push the compresser wheel backwards. 5 lbs is next to nothing but none the less its not good on the turbo. i would throw it on there because your probly gonna realize how worthless 5lbs is and your gonna wanna push more boost.
:word: I wasn't happy with 12
