Recently returned from a weekend excursion to Vail, Colorado where we attended the 10th Annual Big Beers, Belgiums, and Barley Wines Fest. If I had to sum it up with one word, the word would be "mindboggling". From this day forward I vow to take every measure possible to eliminate normal beer from my consumption. Of course parties and events may limit me to only the "Light" alternative of beer, but I am now making a very conscious effort to explore and enjoy all that the world of beer has to offer. I've sampled many extremely rare and fantastic brews and have just begun to wet my thirst for them.

For those of you familiar with Sam Adam's Utopias, I just wanted to make note that I was one of the lucky fest-goers to experience a sample of this truly unique drink. It's nothing like anything else you've ever ingested, and the time and effort taken to create this yearly tradition is something of an art.

Now, to get back on "topic"? These are just a few of the wonderful brews I was able to enjoy over the weekend/tonight. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera for fear of it being broken (such as at Oktoberfest), so there are no photos of the Vail fest. Nonetheless...

How are the Hazed & infused and the delirium? I have both of those at a whole foods near me and have been a little curious..

Im very upset. My beer refrigerator shut off for a while and ruined all my Franziskaner Weissbeer. :(

Hazed & Infused is a nice, aromatic, hoppy beer while Delirium Tremens tastes like a Hefe to me, although it's a Pale Ale. Nocturnum, hmm, it's just a Dark Ale, hard to describe without one in front of me.

Wow, hard to believe I still have the last post. It's been a month and a half... Not to say I haven't been trying new beers. I've tried many, unfortunately haven't gotten pictures of a lot of them. I'm trying to get back on track now that work and stuff has slowed down a little.

Today's choice pick:

Stone Brewing Co.'s Stone Ruination IPA
http://www.stonebrew.com/ruin/
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/147/4083

Beautiful golden color, a little hazy, still transparent. Awesomely aromatic. Bitter, almost mouth-drying, yet leaves me salivating. Pours with a nice head that lasts about 5 minutes, then dissipates to just a bit of bubbles. Lacing is great near the top, once the head is gone there is little to none. Flavor? Hops... Lots of hops...

Overall one of my favorite IPA's, and I drink them more than any other type of beer. This beer is part of the reason I'm planning a trip to San Diego and spending a day at Stone Brewing Co. I've yet to have one of their beers I didn't completely enjoy, and I've had a lot of theirs, more than you can find in even the best liquor stores. Strongly suggest you try it if you find it.

The keg should be fine as long it's been cold the entire time and was kept pressurized. I know here it's gotten up into the 50's some days. I usually keep snow packed around it, at least 3/4 high on the keg. Hand-pump pressurized kegs are usually good for about 30 days.
