sorry for the late reply. You can peice together a turbo setup yourself, thus the name homemade. There's a website about this called homemadeturbo.com, I think thats the name. Thats the only way you are gonna turbo the car for around a grand that I know of. Otherwise go with the Greddy kit.

I never said it would be the best. I just said it could be done.

the GReddy kit is perf for just a bolt on turbo kit. People always knock the blue box but they dont realize that the blue box is excellent as long as you run the kit in its 'out of box' state. Once you start to upgrade the kit and run higher boost, you need to upgrade EVERYTHING....engine management, injectors, and so forth. I've never heard anything about losing A/C and as far as bypassing a manifold, you should slap whoever told you that
oh word? would an intercooler count as breaking the "out of box" feel for it? and does that get in the way of the a/c thanks

adding an intercooler and running at the same boost level will be fine without any wacky engine management problems or bother your A/C. Once you dabble in running higher boost, the first thing i reccomend is finding another enigine management system (AEM....Hondata.......blah blah blah) Also keep in mind that higher boost means you'll have higher compression, so you need to build the block, get a stronger headgasket and maybe some Skunk2 valve springs and retainers with Eagle rods for example.

yea, but only using the turbine and the little parts....replacing injectors, not using the e-manage...I am pretty much buying the carb number...the turbos on the GReddy kits are good about up until 14 psi, then the internal wastegate starts to give..

you could fab a decent kit in under a G, if you know the right people or know where to look...but with a kit under a G you are restricted to how much boost you can run cuz you cant get a full kit with good fuel management for under 1000, my fuel management alone will cost over a G in the end...

I dont know why you guys say GReddy kits are a big dissapointment? No one has given me any viable reason as to they're thinking. And who says ITR swapped rex's are fast? What do they run in 1/4, low 14's?

i say that because i read about them haveing a contest with jrsc and a ex ran a 15.2 with 6psi 2.5 pipeing and tuned not with the blue box. i have beaten a ex with the greddy turbo kit and many other mods. They dont do as much as a turbo should, so that is why i think they are a disapointment. you are not going to use the blue box and your going to turn the boost up so you will get some power out of it but just running it the way it comes it is a dog.

a friend that i know here used the GReddy TD05 kit (meant for the Si) on his D16y8 with the type 24 intercooler and he's boostin' at 10 psi and he hits 13's and he losses traction in every gear down the track. If you think about it......a SOHC with only 6 psi is only pushin' about 170whp or so.....so runnin' that 15.2 is about right give or take a tenth for driver variables and such.
