For Those Who Said It Couldn't Be Done...

like i said i took a dremel and ground out the the inside. the spacing between the edge of the bulb, and the projector lense is about 0.75-1" which is plenty of space, and if they would have burned up it would have happened by now. I drove through the night from baton Rouge, La to Destin, Florida and did not have problems at all. Heat issues are non-existent, i have been running them for 4 months without problems. If something would have melted it would have happened by now.

i dont think anyone is disputing that someone told you they look good.. all we are saying.. is that your "side picture" has the same look id imagine the sun would have if it all of the sudden turned blue and exploded while staring directly at it..

yeh i just registered this month.... but like i said i have this HID kit installed since nov. not that hard to understand really. I dremeled the bulb seating, i widened the opening where the bulb slides through so that it could fit. Thats what they mean about it not being designed for HID kits.

dont HIDs get pretty hot...

arent projectors really closed in...

if thats the case.. im not sure this was the best idea...
HIDs actually operate at a lower temperature due to the fact they are filled with the gas known as XENON. Also becuase of this technology, it actually draws less wattage (35W) compared to (55W) of standard halogen headlights which in turn creates less heat.

finally someone to back me up :-)

They also don't get as hot because they do not have a filament, it is an eletrical arc between two nodes.

hmm then im at a total loss because the base of the HID singed a tiny piece of plastic by the clip that holds in the bulb.... that never happened with the stock bulbs...

its confusing because you say they are cool.. and then i read this..

bulbs operate at high temperature with great pressure probably near or over 30 atmospheres. The internal quartz arc tube temperature is probably typically around 800 degrees C (1400-1500 degrees F or so). The outer bulb is not this hot, but it is definitely burning hot. The arc tube always has at least some miniscule risk of exploding and should only be operated in a headlight housing or other suitable container. Improper operation increases the risk of bulb explosion.

i mean maybe im goofy.. but that sounds pretty hot to me...

Q: Can I put HID kit into my TYC/aftermarket Projectors?
A: Yes and No. The thing is the aftermarket "projectors" so called are not high quiality like the Valeo, E55, E46 or what not and the aftermarket projectors for 99% of the Civic's are for halogen only and it's off some fog lights or same materials and stuffs. Either way DO NOT ever put your HID kit in a halogen projectors. It can give off various glares off everywhere, beam pattern will be not so great and sometimes it can melt

i have no issue with you.. you posted something you did and SPECIFICALLY did it in a way to PROVE that you did something everyone told you could not be done.. you then go on to just want people to give you props for this.. i think its great you did it.. got them to fit and all.. but if i think what you did was a bad idea.. i cant just sit here and say "good job man great idea" because that's NOT what im thinking.. im thinking they are going to burn up and cause you issues.. im not telling you that to hurt your feelings.. or build my own self esteem.. i am voicing my OPINION so that you may consider it.. and possibly save yourself aggravation.. i pointed out WHY i thought it was a bad idea.. and maybe im wrong.. but you have not even addressed the info i posted..

so again.. calmly.. NOTHING personal..
but aren't they going to burn up the housings over time.. ;)

to be perfectly honest i knew about that risk and it was just one i was willing to take, i beleive sometime this week im gonna take the headlight off and the bulb out to inspect it. still 4 months have passed and i have not had problems. i'm not taking it personal, and sorry i didn't address your concerns, but HID's do have a cooler operating temperature then normal bulbs. 55watts produces a hotter temp. than 35 watts which is what HID's run off of. I think the issue with not putting HID bulbs into after market projector lamps was the issue of them not being able to fit not the fact that they would melt, cause out of all of the people i know who have done the same thing i have, have never had a problem with it, myself included.

I didn't see oc mention if he liked or disliked it. i will assume he dislikes it for it's probability of melting the housing though.

Just because you managed to do something all by yourself, on however strict of a budget does not mean you need to be given props. Sorry. :what:
