Although I am sure it will be fine, I just have issues with using "No Name" Parts for something AS IMPORTANT as Timing, that thing goes bad AT ALL then stuff starts to break!... I bought a Underdrive Pulley for my B18 and now I am not going to use it because I didn't think of the importance of having a factory pulley due to the balance issues. So I am going to drop the coin on an Unorthodox which is NOT cheap but they are the ONLY one that is liquid balanced. And to the pile we add a knockoff adjustable cam gear (yeah yeah, I'll upgrade to name brand when I boost) and an intake gasket.
Love coming home and having parts at my door.
This one was a 5 bolt design, most of the uber-junk ones are only 4 bolt. Looking at it up close (and holding it), this one seems pretty heavy duty. If my shop buddy thinks it's no good I'll just keep the stock one, but it was only $35 shipped. I definitely want an AEM or other real name brand part once I start in with the boost, though.Although I am sure it will be fine, I just have issues with using "No Name" Parts for something AS IMPORTANT as Timing, that thing goes bad AT ALL then stuff starts to break!... Just my 2 cents, but looks good...
Might I ask how much that was?
Please make sure to use OEM timing belt or Gates Racing... So VITAL
I never thought using a cheap piece was a good idea with extra power, I know you get what you pay for. I'm only thinking about using it with the 120-130hp of stock output I'll get when it's first bolted together. No nitrous, no boost or anything like that. I'm pretty sure that motor in the picture was making substantially more than stock power when that gear blew. If that broken gear was on a stock motor, then yeah, I probably wouldn't use the one I just got lolhttp://www.clubcivic.com/board/showthread.php?t=197953
Check out this thread... About 3-5th pic is a Broken Timing gear.... Sooooooooo thoughts now? lol
Gonna do the conversion after I get everything I need together to build the motor. I'm still debating whether to do it all at once, or in two stages. I can either 1.) build the bottom end and leave the top end stock, and maybe put the boost on and blow it lightly, then do just the top end later and crank up the boost when the funds for the parts come around, or 2.) just wait till I have absolutely everything and yank the motor once. The main problem I have with the two part deal is paying to tune it twice, and the main thing about doing it all at once is waiting for the money and not having ANY fun in the meantime. I really think I'm going to just wait and do it all at once, meaning it probably won't be until May or June. I'd just slap the head on there and call it good to start off, but my piston rings are bad and I blow smoke over 4k rpm at WOT. Not gonna swap the head and not fix the bottom end, and I definitely don't want to pull the bottom end twice. I'm an (increasingly) well-researched, relatively mechanically-inclined enthusiast, not a certified master mechanic with my own garage lolOh ok....thats good...maybe i'll pick up a block like that for when I go turbo. When do you plan to do the conversion? And u still have to do the mpfi conversion correct?
