if you get a 5g hatch, swap in a b18c.

you will love that car forever.

i want an Si hatch cuz if power options and sunroof, and tach etc, will the extra weight (compared to a dx) play a significant role in slowing the car down??
i dont really care about 1/4 mile time, i just want to have fun racing my friends on the rack; putting up a challenge, and beating the people who drive caveliers/sunfire with muffler tips and think they're all cool.

with a B16a2 swap would i be able to beat the sunfies and caveliers and other "riced out civics"

im just getting into swapping engines, and i dont really know how fast a hybrid is (never been in one) so any input would be GREAT!!!

a hatch with 170 hp (b16a2) is nice. a hatch with that an and a shot of nitrous oxide is mental :D

and yeah, you should be able to beat most of the guys on your block no effort. just make sure to fix the airflow at the same time (air intake, headers, exhaust... intake+catback is a minimum)

would a b18b1 (non VTEC) with boost make same power as b16a2 with boost ... or more power?.. or less?

it depends on the tuning. The b18b's have lower compression and are the ideal motors for boost. Although i have a friend making 350+ to the wheels on a boosted b16.

like i said it's all in how you build the motor, and how it's tuned.

Hi,

Im from London (Don't take the piss) I got a 92 Honda Civic 1.6 Esi VTEC. The whole point that I think you guys are totally missing is VTEC! VTEC made by Honda allows the car to reach high end powers most cars can't get to! My car hits 9,000 rpm & Redlines around 7,500 rpm thats when some cars stop!
My friend has an LSI civic 92 mod which is non-vtec, its just not the same! Not as much torque at the top end! The Power keeps delivering strong where as most engines die down!
The turbo is nothing like the sensation of a VTEC Trust me!
I sugguest you go for a VTEC Mod unless your after a less powerful car! As for price I can't say....
I brought my car for £1,300 completely standard with 69k on the clock. So make your mind up mate! Go for the VTEC, Go on son

v-tec is very importnant in my opinion. you should buy an Si version if you can find one becuase if you are going to do any kind of v-tec engine swap such as a b18c1 or b16a1, the si model will have all the v-tec hanress and wires all ready to go plus many other ltitle things you dont have to worry about with a dx which means lower labor costs and dont have to worry about little shiznits like that with one of those low models. and also get a stock used si with no modificaitons. taht'll run you at around 3 Gs, a buck up or down. And taht deal for 3,800 is a rip off. my brother has a 94 civic si hatchback with GSR rims, revolution exhaust, DC ceramic headers, and a cold air intake and many other basic mods with 110,000 miles that he bought from a honda DEALER and bought it for just under 3,500. this car does high 15's in high altitude colorado elevation. and the trubo question, i dont think you should turbo your civic as first, other than if you got SOHC then yea you need it but if you're going into the b16 or b18 or even H22 series, then you should seriously think about going all engine and if you really can and want to then turbo it. Becasue in the long run if you have a high compressed all motor and have extensive internals and external bolt ons, you might not run 10's but if you really worked at the all motor thing you can run easily low 13's or even high 12's. And plus it'd be more reliable if your civic would be a daily driver and turbo has so much more maintenance jobs to do. And finally SOHC are too much work for the end product. just save up some money and do a swap b16 or higher series, more options. V-tec is important, that what HONDA is all about. i would feel almost naked with a honda with no v-tec unless you had turbo.

ya... 3800 isn't the greatest if deals... the reason its so expensive is cause of the "low" mileage of the engine, if you have the surplus of cash i would be a higher mileage car and then get an engine swap (B-Series) would be easiest...

Bah its not VTEC thats important, its DOHC thats important. i.e:

1.6L SOHC VTEC = 125hp
1.6L DOHC ZC = 137hp

Now when you add DOHC with VTEC, thats when things become interesting =)

I hate when people say stuff like this. Lower the compression on the vtec engine... handle more boost and still have vtec. God it's a simple concept.
