was curious to see if he clear coated it or not
Sorry guys, been busy trying to figure out this misfire issue, I used high temp ford blue paint, no clear, it just has a glossy finish to it, all of the pieces under my hood were painted with the same paint including the rear drums. I hate that I'm having such a hard time with this misfire issue, it's going in the shop tomorrow so my regular mechanic can look at it, I hope it's not the distributor or ECU, I can't afford those for a long while, my car will have to sit for a bit.
Well car is in the shop, I'll know more when he calls, I have a bad feeling about this, wondering what else he will find like maybe the head gasket or piston rings fried when it overheated, I'm just worried about what it's going to cost more than anything plus my bodywork & paint will have to wait till next tax time & that's too long for me. I wish I had all of the diagnostic tools the shop does so I could test it myself or better yet have all the tools needed to pull out the engine & do all of the work myself. Now just waiting with worry.
Well it's as bad as I thought, the head gasket is blown & maybe the head is cracked but he doesn't know for sure, he doesn't rebuild engines there, so I'm looking around for quotes to see how much it's going to cost to get it done, this sucks, just put a bunch of money in it & boom.
OK, here is the break down, the car is now at a reputable machine repair shop, they are going to look it over& tomorrow give me a full quote, the guy told me it's not going to go over $1300 as long as the pistons & block don't look bad but he doesn't think it's that bad, for that price they will replace all hoses, timing belt, water pump, gaskets, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil & fully machine the head. Now I just replaced the cap, plugs & wires so that's a little shaved off of the cost. Other quotes I got were $1500 & that didn't include the water pump or timing belt, another place said $1650 & included everything the place I took it to does so I think it's a better deal, I was gonna go with a swap to a y8 but don't wanna change everything out right now, just need my car running since it's my dd, maybe later when my son gets older & I go back to work full time.

for that much, you could do a ls swap, and for a lot cheaper get a running y8 put in. i wouldnt waste my time, thats way to much
^ agreed for the time it has to be in the shop to do all that and the price you could get a running y8 for cheap and just throw it in there not like other swaps its a d series to a deseries wouldnt take much and you would get a little hp bump and have your dd back.
can get a running y8 for like 150-250 and then just do all that stuff like timing belt water pump when you go to put it in
If you want to pull it out of pull a part you can get it for way cheaper, but since this is your dd i would defintly say get one you know is runnig and working fine.

I know that it's cheaper to do a swap but I need the car like yesterday & I don't have time to do that kind of work myself, I only get weekends to work all day on it when the wife is home to take care of my son.for that much, you could do a ls swap, and for a lot cheaper get a running y8 put in. i wouldnt waste my time, thats way to much
I have found complete y8 engines for $375 online & on CL, but I don't have a hoist or proper tools to do the job myself so I'm paying a convenience tax to have someone do it right with a 2 yr warranty plus getting more than a gasket repair, they are doing everything I haven't replaced yet & completely machining the head to look like new & if all goes well I'll get it back by Tuesday next week instead of a month or two of renting a car because this household needs two cars for sure. I only have one friend who can help but he doesn't have the stuff to do all of the work either & he works alot & I would have to get stuff done on his schedule which conflicts with mine, too many variables, easier to let someone else do it & go broke, LOL!If you want to pull it out of pull a part you can get it for way cheaper, but since this is your dd i would defintly say get one you know is runnig and working fine.

Sorry to hear about this man... I wouldn't invest ANY money into having someone rebuild it. The time its going to take for them to get it done and back to you, and the money you will spend will be more or just the same as swapping it for y8 like others said or something else..
I wasn't looking for speed so much as I do function, it's my dd & don't needed it boosted right now, when my son gets older & I go back to work full time I will do some major upgrades for sure, I look at it as a future project. The price I'm paying these guys is for quality work with a warranty & I looked at past work they have done & they know their s**t, The place is called HiTech Automotive, they do send the stuff out to be machined but they do one hell of a job, they will only have my car till monday, I may get it back tomorrow evening but I don't really need the car till monday anyway since I have made other arrangements till then.Sorry to hear about this man... Y8 AEM sri, Yonaka catback exhaust Megan 4-2-1 header, front and rear upper strut tower bars, front and rear lower tie bars, ngk plugs and wires, summit racing distributor cap and rotor button, Accel super coilHe just answered that man he he cant do the y8 swap himself so hed have to find the one he wants get it then pay a shop to put it in and not have a dd for all that time.
