it's just more fun to drive with a shorter shift length. And yes, APC is s**t, and i wouldn't buy anything else from them, but the short shifter i bought works very very good. Why spend an extra $50 for the same piece of metal/aluminum

Remember, you can't spell crap without APC

That's really funny

It doesn't matter all short shifters will do it, u'll either have to have the piece that is rubbing against the exhaust cut off or somehow moved to the side...The same thing happened when I installed a DC ss on my 97 dx and on my Si...nothing u can do but cut it off or move it...

remove your heat shield and rap the area near the shifter with heat thermal rap!

i just wanted to know what exhausts you people have. stock? aftermarket? what kind? i could see if you had big ass exhaust piping the shifter would hit, but does it hit the stock too? just asking because i might get a short shifter and i have an apex n1 catback. i was going to get the skunk2 if i get one. i figured it would probably hit the exhaust from all the threads i have read on this. is the best solution to just remove the 2 inch long (guess) counterweight piece? is that the only piece that really hits the exhaust? if you do remove it, how does it affect shifting/feel? :what:

I have a stock exhaust and the short shifter causes the linkage fork's counter weight to bang my stock exhaust. Removing the heat shield isn't enough.

So... as far as lowering the exhaust hangers go, how do you do this? Buy longer rubber hangers? If so, so I have to do this to the entire length of the exhaust (multiple hangers) or is there enough play to do just one? Or are you talking about bending the hook rods that the hangers mount on?

i would probably rather cut off the couterweight piece than bend the exhaust hangers or move the exhaust, if removing it won't really affect shifting that much. i'm not sure about this though- can anyone who has removed the counterweight inform us?

if you would rather bend the hangers, then good luck, and let us know how it goes. i wouldn't prefer it, but everyone has their own ideas/preferences

i'd rather screw with the exhaust than mess with something that's an integral part of driving

maybe so, but i have no problem with and it would be fairy easy for me to remove the couterwheight. if it dosen't really affect the shifting/feel that much, i would rather get rid of it so i would never have to worry about it hitting the exhaust.

its not the shifter that would be cut, its the shift linkage.

Yeah, the counter weight is on the shift linkage. If you have welding tools to cut off the weight, then I don't see why you wouldn't use the same welder to put it back on a little higher. You'll lose a little mechanical advantage for the counter weight, but it'll be a lot better than no weight at all.

Or, weld cut the counter weight off, then mount some weights on to the shift linkage bar clamps or something.

Hey... let's think about this for a sec... the counter weight actually acts AGAINST your hand shifting. This probably gives it a more solid feel. Taking the weight off should increase the mechanical leverage your hand has way up there on the knob and make shifting feel LOOSER or less resistive....... yeah, keep the weights on. But move em.

More trouble than it's worth. I'm sticking with my stockie and just enjoying the grip and feel of my shift knob. I wonder if polyurethane shift bushings would be worth it to make it feel more precise and less mushy.

what you said makes sense i guess. i was just hoping to hear from SDEKSi, to see if he cut the weight off or if he relocated it. i was wondering how his shifting was affected. i have a set of torches i could cut it off with, and could have my dad weld it, but i am not going to doing anything yet. i bet poly bushing would stiffen thing up. i'm going to get a set before my shifter "project" is all said and done. there cheap- like $10. just give 'em a try
