i live in VA. ive been searched 5 times for pretty much no reason other than driving a civic. im as polite as possible with them, no attitude what so ever and they still hassle the hell out of me. never had a good experience with the police and ive always been polite.
Watch the third video Wax Hands recommends, 4 minutes. Seems the cops at your neighborhood are going to hassle no matter what. Just be a d**k and deny them the search. They will try and scare you using whatever tactics they can. They will call back up, they will keep you waiting outside for several minutes. In my case, they took me outside my car, and then made me close my eyes and count to 20,while facing my car with the door open. The cops where sticking there head inside and flashing there lights all over the inside of my car. I kept my cool and didnt open my eyes. They still searched my car VISUALLY, which they saw nothing.

You could always fight a ticket in court, in your case it got drop, so you probably went to court, showed your tags and insurance...case closed. Yea your agent hooked u up, taker her to lunch as a thank you.

there is an Ontario California  Im guessing thats where the OP is from
Well son-of-a-b***h. They need to change that now so that ignorant people like me dont get confused.
I am not complaining. I just want to know my rights if i am being violated. I am protected by the 4th amendment. I just need to be more educated on this right before I start acting like a smart ass in front of the cop. If I am wrong my vehicle could get towed and then searched illegally.
Your car CANNOT be towed, and then searched illegally. If your car is in their possession (impounded), they can search ANY part of your car without consent.

there are ways around it like lets say being very sensitive to light either eyes or skin and can get tints legally through doctors consent.

truth.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but don't your headlights have to be a certain height above the ground, thus making lowering (or lifting) a vehicle an illegal mod? I think the height for trucks is like 23 inches but I don't know about cars.

Like said in the code, weather you think it NEEDS to be a certain modification or not, it is up to the officer to decide what they find to be a mod. It would be hard to fight your word against theirs in court.
lowering isn't an illegal mod unless you are driving around SUPER slammed. i don't remember what the height requirement is, but it's really low, iirc.

all this talk of targeting modified cars in california is fascinating to me. i've never had a problem here for having modifications... i was hassled more in washington. not to mention, you can't leave the house without seeing heavily modified vehicles, so... the strict modification laws confuse me, because there are sooooo many people who do it here. :what: but i keep mine registered in washington, so... wootsauce.

Your from Sacramento? Ive never been down there, but sounds like they are being more lenient. Yea, situations are all different throughout CA even thou they all follow the same rules and regulations. I guess it comes down to the city and how much of our tax money should go to waste pulling over these so called modified cars. LA sucks! its the hot spot. I prefer to live up north =)

Its my goal in life to move up there, not to modify cars but to live the life.

What I don't understand is... Why the hell does it make a difference if you have CARB legal parts or not.. It's not like they're that different from non-CARB legal parts other than the fact that DC paid for the CARB sticker (and I guess if you get a different cat). You're like the only state out of 50 that gives a s**t about it and a lot of the cities in CA are one of the most polluted states in the US.

I'm glad I don't live there. But I'm not glad I live in NY. One of the highest taxed states in the US. Woo!
