I'm no expert but would you not have to strengthen the tranny or driveshaft at all? I've always thought autos were less stable. but then agian I have no idea.
hey, if its what you wanna do, go for it. don't worry about what other people think.

He has a Civic dude, which is FWD, there are no driveshafts...

No way that a stock SI will take a Turbo EX. Auto or stick. Thats bullshit. My auto ex can keep up with Si's. i know this s**t for a fact because I have done it. I dont need some f**ker who thinks SI's are so fast telling me this. They only have 160hp. Thats only 30 more hp than the ex. And if you turbo the EX with a basic Greddy kit, you get 60% power which would put the ex in the 180hp range. 160 vs 180, ummmmm. auto or not, hp doesnt lie, plus the ex weighs a little less. Back to the topic at hand, im thinking about just trading my car in for a slightly older civic 5 speed and then turboing it. the 92-95's are cheap as hell and the turbo kits seem to be cheaper too. good idea or not?????

if your car is running strong than keep it, do the tranny swap later on...the 92-95 greddy kit will work for your car,(thats what i have) just need to extend your o2 wires.

you're also comparing crank hp which means nothing in this case, if you compared wheel hp it would be nearly identical
you lose nearly twice as much power to the wheels with a honda auto as you do with a stick

and with the infinately better gearing of the si i'd have to say it has the advantage.
and without time slips you have nothing to prove otherwise

compare 92 whp on a stock civic ex auto non turbo running 17.29. these are the numbers i ran but the whp is also from another source. that is between 25-30% drivetrain loss to the wheels. the hondamatic will eat up more power to the wheels then the honda manual. consider the whp on a si with only 20% drivetrain loss at 128whp. is this accurate? 16.3 1/4 mile time as well. this is 1 second faster. if the 180hp with the turbo ex stays true then with 30% loss it comes out to 126whp. it eats up about 54 hp from the crank to the wheels. hmm. 126who vs 128whp. then comes in gearings. someone like to keep this going? feel free to argue my #'s. im going to have to say it would be a pretty damn close race and come down to driver error for the si

the best person to get info on this from is Quad Damage. he was running somewhere between 6-8psi on his stock auto transmission with a tranny cooler. i believe he ran it on the 1/4 too so he should know first hand how it is. he swapped to a 5 speed though and said it was well worth it. he's not much of a fan of boosted autos anymore.....

i agree with most of it pretty much, except that a stock si should be good for atleast high 15's with a halfway decent driver.
with a good driver i've seen them run consistant mid 15's bone didly stock

i think it would do nice. continuous power the turbo wont need to be spooled up, but like the others said upgrade the torque converter, and get a tranny cooler? its something like an oil cooler not to sure about it though, one of my boys have a turbo EG thats Auto hes running stock at 5psi thing moves, he got good 0-60 times becuz it really wont spin as for the 1/4mile times im not to sure, but like i was sayin if you car had a higher Shift point you would do damage to some Single cam turbos. becuz the turbo dont stock pretty much till you stop

Auto d tranny do not hold alot of power well. I wouldnt push it Ive have friends that sprayed on autos & such & the trannys went to s**t. & a guy the was here on CC had a turbo auto, I dont think nothing happened to his trenny... I think the motor blew for some reason, but he said when it ran it performed well

a member on here... quad damage had a turbo charged d series w/ an AT... he blew the tranny even though he had a tranny cooler. truth is... honda AT's are shitty and are barely worth a damn on a stock civic. remember, AT's are made to shift smoothly so they slip a little bit... w/ a turbo its just a matter of time till it blows. upgrading is stupid because its much cheaper to do a 5-speed conversion than it is to have a fully built AT.

that last line is so true. that is why i am converting to 5 speed soon. the 5 speed will hold more power for a lot less money, even to install all the s**t for the 5 speed. ur lookin at around $2k to have a auto trans that can handle that power and be reliable and last. a 5 speed as long as u keep ur fluid level up and dont pop the clutch every light ur just fine

Ok. Ive figured out what im going to try and do. I love my car. I got the thing looking sweet as f**k, and i got a bad ass sound system in it. I am going to just try and trade it for an Integra or a older civic. 5-speed of course. And then save up and slap a turbo in it. And again, i dont need time slips to tell me my car can keep up with an SI. i have raced them. think what you want. Its probably because of the chip i had put in the car. anyone ever heard of a Tri-Phase performace module? I raced this guy at work who has an SI. me and him raced for about a good mile. we were side by side for the most of it and then he slowed down to turn around because he lived back in the other direction. He has a bone stock SI with an exhuast tip. Anyways, a greddy turbocharged intregra LS would be quick wouldnt it? somewhere around 170whp? plus the b18b1's are nice engines right. see if an SI will keep up with a turbocharged integra. Tell me what you guys think. Oh, and you guys think it would be reasonable to sell a 99 Civic ex with 102k miles for about $6500-$7000. Thanks.
