i have a friend who boosted his d16y7 and got 190 at the wheels. of course, his drivetrain nor bottom end were stock... but considering you have the vtec y8, you have more possibilty than him. i'd say don't push 10 pounds and keep things moderate and regaurdless of your auto tranny... a little money and determination will go a long way. good luck and happy boosting.

Anyways, i only said that s**t because its true. I dont have to lie. My butt dyno is king. lol. I talked to a guy at work who knows his stuff, he said that a boosted automatic can take 7 psi without much strain. but im still just going to get an integra and turbo it. thank you guys that accually posted some decent information, and f**k you guys who just made s**t up because you think your car is fast. si's are slow. come to Jax in about 5 months and well see what you got.

The funny thing about most of these forums is that any question that is asked the answer always tend to be he said she said bullshit....................or if there is a kill story it is all bullshit too.....damn.........anyway here is my experience with auto civics.....I've been an Import performance mechanic for over 15 years and I too had an adventure with a 93 Civic EX Auto and wanted to trip people out at the streetraces and the track. So we had started runnin' NOS. Only a 50 shot at first and than gradually worked it up to a 100 shot(alot of late night tuning sessions and boxes of spark plugs later)....runnin' high 13's, low 14's at the track, smokin alot of people with manuals because there wasn't really any tire spin off the line and it pulled all the way to redline than shifted, than growing tired of filling the bottle we installed a used Drag turbo kit for a 91 CRX Si runnin" 9 to 12 pounds and eventually hit 12.99 at the track ..it was easy hold the brake, stick it in "D" push the gas until the boost comes online and wait for the green, than floor it.............everything worked out fine for over a year and than we wanted more, so we dropped in a built B18b LS with an auto trans with a td04e turbo......and that was the biggest mistake ever, LS auto tranny's suck and Level 10 couldn't even build one to handle the thrashing.....a few tranny's later someone rolled out an Turbo H22 turbo hatch with an Auto and broke into the 12's with ease and no tranny problems either...... we eventually changed it to stick and sold it off to start another project..............so I say drop in the Turbo and get it professionally tuned so you can enjoy it without worrying about it's dependability and thrash all the s**t-talkers........................peace

get a tranny cooler for sure, and do not run high levels of boost.
your car can take it but its NOT worth it, please get a 5sp or start saving for an engine swap. i went down the automatic road, and now i dont drive an automatic civic anymore. not only will you have a more powerfull car with a boosted 5spd, it will be a hell of alot more fun.

compare 92 whp on a stock civic ex auto non turbo running 17.29. these are the numbers i ran but the whp is also from another source. that is between 25-30% drivetrain loss to the wheels. the hondamatic will eat up more power to the wheels then the honda manual. consider the whp on a si with only 20% drivetrain loss at 128whp. is this accurate? 16.3 1/4 mile time as well. this is 1 second faster. if the 180hp with the turbo ex stays true then with 30% loss it comes out to 126whp. it eats up about 54 hp from the crank to the wheels. hmm. 126who vs 128whp. then comes in gearings. someone like to keep this going? feel free to argue my #'s. im going to have to say it would be a pretty damn close race and come down to driver error for the si

I think your point is valid, but your numbers are wrong.

A tranny doesn't suck up 30%. It may take out 30% at stock, but it's not going to take out 30% at twice the stock power level because that would mean that the transmission is becoming less efficient, which simply doesn't happen, it takes a set amount of power and that's it. So if a auto tranny sucks up 30hp, stock whp would be about 100 and an engine boosted to 180 would have 150whp. VS your mindset of a 180 engine have 126whp from a 30% loss.

I can't believe nobody caught this.

i can see where u are coming from. however i have never heard "this transmission will eat up 30hp". i have always heard a certain percentage. i know its hard to believe at 500horsepower u will only make 350 to the wheels lol which it obviously wouldnt. they are estimates given to give u an idea of what to expect. i would hope an auto wouldnt make 126whp turbo'ed but who is to tell. its kinda depressing i know. i can sit here and say that i have seen turbo auto's race and they were NOT that impressive, but at 6-7 psi and an auto trans drainin the hell out of it and gearing owning it its not gonna be all that quick.

u caught me on that, and i admit it. those numbers were for a stock engine and i didnt take into consideration other elements.
