Why did the Si come with the B16 tranny? Well, probably because it has the B16 motor! Dit-deety dur.

LS trannies are by no means for saving gas. LS trannies are very nice for turbo cars. The B16 and B18c engines both rev much higher than the LS. Whether you have a turbo that spools at 2000rpm or a turbo that spools at 5000rpm, the LS tranny will benefit you because you stay in boost longer because of the looong gears. The B16 tranny, depending on your turbo, could even take you OUT of boost when shifting because the ratios are so short.

I'm not saying the B16 tranny is bad because it's not by all means, I'm just letting you know that the LS tranny is a very nice addition to a b-series turbo setp.
the b16 tranny is in the si because its better than the ls

you stay in boost longerrrrrrrrrr means your going slow because its taking you longer to switch gears.
b16 tranny will accelerate the fastest while the ls is the slowest.

The myth that you stay in gear longer with the LS transmission makes you faster is purely false. Think about that statement for a second. Acceleration is the measure of velocity over a unit time. Watching the rpms climb on the tach during a 3rd/4th gear pull, they would be climbing slower than with the si/itr tranny. Looking at the definition of acceleration as a measure of velocity over a unit time, the engine would be getting to the same velocity over a slower time lapse. This would yield slower acceleration, and simply put make you slower.
after reading that make your way to this thread

I dont care what jeff evens or who ever says, "My personal experence", I like the LS for its longer gears, the only reason i say this is my car is making over 400 whp, making it easer to get traction in lower gears because the gears are longer, its as simple as that, If the said car is going to make high numbers say over 375 hp and he still wants driveabity then i would go wiht the ls but if he want to be shifting like an 18 wheeler then he can go with the b16 trans, but again this is just my personal experance. Just an fyi a boosted si wiht a stock LS block and trans i just compleated a few weeks ago make 339 @14 psi, running AEM EMS.

230?? That's it??

I can name, off the top of my head, at least 8 turbo LSs running around here in Texas pushing 300whp on the stock motor.

Its also My personal experence LS tranny = s**t for its longer gears & weaker internals... GSR is gear perfect not to long, not to short & is made with beefier components
