I used to want a supercharhger for my 99 si, but after doing a crap load of reaserch i have decided to go turbo when i get around to that point of the car. Superchargers do put out impressive numbers but the thing that baffels me is the still low quarter mile times. Like for instance the vortech supercharged si still runs like a 14 second 1/4 mile?????? Nd thats runing 277hp and 175 tq to the ground??? And that will cost you almost 5,000 dollars???? a turbo kit will run you about 2500 to 3000. Plus I want to have the blow off valve sound hehehehehehe

I believe superchargers are more for top speed, because the same vorect si is the first civic to pass the 200 mph mark.

just do your reasearch and you will get the answer your looking for

the supercharger is more designed for low down grunt and is better suited for daily driving but the turbo is the 1/4mile king! and you can upgrade a turbo car much more then you can a supercharged car! but for me i would love all that torque a supercharger puts out low in the powerband! imagine going uphill in 5fth and flooring it and the thing just takes off=)

I like superchargers but stay away from Jackson Racing. Check out some of the dyno plots... dealer claim is a gain of 22 horses on d16z6

vortech is a brand of superchargers=)
and someone said that jackson racing only added 22hp! the fact is that the jrsc adds around 45hp at the wheels and that is not too shabby! you do realise that the d16z6 does not have 125hp at the wheels it´s more like 100hp and the jrsc makes 145hp at the wheels or something like that and that equals about 170-180hp at the crank=)

If you think about it, 175 tq is alot for street tires. That's why the vortech si runs such shitty times. It's being ran the street legal way....you know street tires. Now if you put a set of slicks on the bad boy, those times will drop fairly quickly. I think mid to low 12's with that power and torque.

175 tq isnt bad for street tires. hmmm ferraris, porsches, lambos, the mclaren, lotus', the ultima gtr use street tires i dont see slicks on those things??? its not like its bad, ive seen 250whp civics use street tires on the track. all you gotta do is learn what tire pressure, learn where to launch, and how to use the clutch so you dont spin your tires...... you can run 12's with street tires.

I know vortech is also a brand of superchargers... duh. It is also a type or motor in chevy trucks. I was just answereing a previous question about vortech engines.

Yes the jrsc gives 45 hp to the wheels but at what price, between 3000-3500 dollars. I dont want to pay that much for 45 hp to the ground when you can spend the same and go the turbo rought. I used to want to go with a supercharger, but over the last year or so i have done a crap ton of reasearch and decided to go turbo now. but its all in the eye of the beholder. You just have to do your reasearch and decide what you want to go for.I dont want to pay that much for 45 hp to the ground when you can spend the same maybe a little more and go the turbo rought. Just my .02

i was not trying to talk down to you=) i just didn´t notice that!
and i know the charger is exspensive but as you said it´s a matter of preference i personally would love the grunt off the charger off the line! you hit the pedal and it starts spinning with maximum torque being way lower in the band then turbos! but i know also that turbo kits are getting better and better and if you choose right you don´t even have to worry about turbo lag which is almost nonexcistense=)

A buddy has a supercharged B16 in his CRX making 210 hp @ wheels and 148 ft. lbs. of tq. @ the wheels. By the way, that was untuned!

superchargers all the way. The best part is they are reliable. Im not trying to bash on turbos, but with a supercharger there is no need for turbo timers or nothing else. No oil lines to leak its just so much more reliable. With the jrsc you dont really have to worry about hurting the engine until you run a pulley kit. I have a supercharged b16a with intake exhaust and header and all i can say is what a fun toy  . I havent had any trouble from it yet and the best part is if i rev under 3 grand you cant hear the supercharger or the v-tec. It a fun sleeper. Although every once in a while i would like a nice blow off valve woosh.

can someone please explain to me the difference between a turbo and a supercharger and which motor is better for forced induction a b16 or b18? whats the ups and downs of each? basically if i were to build a sleeper i'd want one of those engines along with means of forced induction, i'm trying to get at what setup would be the best. i've heard superchargers are more reliable, thats jjust one of the many things i'd like to know more about. what would your setup be? thanks to all in advance.
