Ha, there is NO rear axle. Im sure your trying to say the rear lower control arm is bent.

Most insurance companies will give you a time frame in which you can buy the car back from the junkyard, a couple grand at least if you dont buy it then the junkyard will part it out .

the only person that can buy the car back is the family of the car owner...most of the time, they're not too expensive...my brother's 1994 gsr got rear ended and its totalled, but we bought it back for 1600...a guy here can fix the damage for about 1000 bucks w/o paint..we're getting about 5000 back w/ the car...so all in all, we got the better deal...

Sorry to hear...I had a similar senario about four months ago. Some lady pulled out in front of my while I was going 50 mph...about $8K later...she was back to normal! But I was almost for sure mine was totaled, but I lucked out. I had the entire front replaced including bracing/brackets, hood, fenders, and a butt load of wiring. I'm thinking though that honda (that did the estimating) was cutting corners...ie non-OEM fenders that didn't fit, they forgot to order my lip and the appropriate grille. I caught all that, so maybe they lost some money?!? All I know is that my Si was less than $100 shy of being totalled.
