if he went type R then he would need to know to go with a smaller sized quick spooling turbo due to the already high compression motor and run on low boost......it would still be a killer set-up, its actually what im doing with my civic. Im not planning on going inside the motor so im staying small with the turbo, but i've seen applications where they do build the type R internally and throw on large turbos and pull rediculous numbers

I'm not a rich kid man. I can't put that kinda money out on the c5. the c1 is going to take a lot of saving and not wasting money to be able to get it.

if i had a b18c5 it would be nerve wrecking for me to put a turbo on that high compression... but on the other hand even low at very low boost it would be incredible gains.... i know it is possible and good luck with it

but back to the question of this tread i currently have the SOHC engine.... its is really a hard choice.. like with the turbo on the SOHC and the BOV.. at first my plans were to EDELBROCK turbo kit the SOHC and then when that engine blows to swap.... but the more and more i think about you have to base... like a good heart to start with.... all the b series engine have a lot more potential then the SOHC motor... dumping money into the d16 the more and more i thought about it just seems like a waste and a lot more costly to make big upgrades... i work at a used car dealership... and i drove an civic SI for the first time and it was absolutely crazy compared to my EX.... its like night and day... if you look at the numbers like 130 hp versus 160 hp its like no big deal... but if you actually drive the two and compare them its the biggest difference in the world... and not to mention the VTEC is crazy too... i have decided to go with the b18c1 though...

well In my opinion I think a fully built B18c with the FMAX 2 turbo would spank alotta ass if ur a good driver, hell I had my motor built and ready to go, but it met with a a rear end of a Crown Victoria..but man coming from it, Id go with b series all the way, besides the GSR is better for boost, just build it bottom end, and keep ur stock cams, and head and u'll be fine, and the exhaust that I would recommend would be either Thermal or Apexi N1 IMO.

You should go ahead and turbo the d16. Buying a b16 with lsd from hmmotorsonline for $3000 shipped and putting that you will be charged $500-600 for labor. That equals about $3600 not counting the tune ups like timing belt, water pump, wires, etc. You are going to be putting maybe 140hp to the wheels and 102tq. With that money you can turbo your SOHC with the Edelbrock kit that you need no tunning just someone to install it for the same price about $3600 and your going to be putting 176hp and 145tq(rough estimate) to the wheels and with the other money that your going to spend with a B-series in buying I/H/E thats about another $1k to 1.5k. You can built your bottom end and turn up the boost and smoke the living s**t out of a dohc. Also have in mind that SOHC motors are cheaper to build and are lighter. With half or even less of the price of building a dohc you can fully built the sohc and still make a tremendous amount of power. i know that the DOHC has more potential than the SOHC but who was $7k to spend on building a DOHC plus turbo and other things. With 5k you can build the SOHC and make a lot of HP plus the parts are cheaper and make about 300hp to 370 to the wheels. In my opinion you dont need more the 370hp in a civic, unless you plan to put a ricer wing and take off into space....... . Just my opinion.

lets consider this.....the 99-00 civic SI and Integra are considered sports cars to insurance companies...you know why...they have a good motor in them....anybody ever heard of a normal civic being called a sports car...hell no....it's a commuter...(i have a civic too and i have accepted this).....swap it and be cool.... ;)
