I love the cold, don't get me wrong... I just like it when there's like <5mph of wind... If there's like NO wind but like 40 degrees outside, I'd LOVE IT!

But s**t, it's been like 40 degrees and the winds are like 20mph... wtf!

How did you wrap the windows? Inside or outside?

Inside. You can buy kits for it at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. They're called window insulation kits. You can google it. Basically you put this double sided tape around your window trim, then apply the clear plastic sheet provided on the tape, then use a hair dryer and shrink the plastic so it gets nice and tight. It keeps the air out. We'll see how much of a difference it makes tonight.

If you're skeptical, they do keep the air out. Like I said earlier, on 1 of my windows, the plastic is bulging into the room from all the air that's getting through the window. Before I had it on, there was so much wind coming through the window, it was pulling it off of the tape. I had to hold the plastic down as I used the hair dryer.

I had like clear plastic wrap in the garage... It's like a big ass roll of clear plastic wrap lulz... I'm thinking about just doing like 2-3 layers of it taped down with duct tape and putting up some curtains....

yeah the rolls of plastic come in different sizes. I do this to every window in my small house every winter and it saves me crazy $$ on my heat bill.

edit* its been 0*F here all week. -19F with the wind chill...

yeah dude that stuff works well, the house i live in was built in the 70's. every year we put that stuff around every window except in the bedrooms cause they are upstairs, but we have like 15 windows to cover, it makes such a HUGE difference

now that this thread has come up... im going to do this to the windows i dont use... like the ones in my kids bedroom... just to keep down the draftyness. it gets f**king cold in there... and these sub 20° days with winds excess of 20mph... make that room cold. my heat is working overtime to keep this house at 75.... but... we are still running around in sweatshirts and blankets because of the draft... i have a thermometer in front of me.. reads 74.6 and my back is cold it feels like there is a window open.

for the first time in 15 years... im actually going to sleep with pants on... i usually go to bed in just drawers. not tonight.

Holy f**king s**t you set your heat to 75? WOW... I wish I had that kind of money lol.

Our thermostat is set to 65 when we're home, 60 during sleep, and 58 during work. 65 is still a bit on the cool side but I like dressing up in hoodies and sweatpants because they're really comfortable.

ive got a 2 year old and a 1 year old.... they have sleeping habits.... if its too cold.. they will freeze... if too hot... obviously...

when they go to sleep... they wont stay covered... and i am not the one to go in there every 5 min to cover them up. so ill deal wit the extra bill to know they wont get sick... and they stay asleep.

in the summer.... 70° is where its at... anything over 76 and they wont sleep...

beauty of children...

The r-value added by the piece of plastic, the x-sq. in. of air space, and your single paned window will yield a slightly better value for thermal energy loss. But nothing amazing.
