I perma banned a troll today




the only thing is that who you may consider a troll is considered by others just to be a noob. Noobs come on and make stupid threads all the time. The problem lays with regular members going onto their thread and insulting the noob because it's to hard for retards to ignore other retards. Sometimes the noob will bight back with insults but WTF do you expect when he's being e-attacked by a bunch of you f**kers. Then you label him a troll and want him banned.



Now, if staff starts to crack down on these noobs you want to label troll then we have to crack dow on the members who are the ones starting the s**t. With that comes you guys crying bloody ass rape because we are giving you infractions and banning. Then we'll be labeled "nazi mods" just the same way you girls are labling noobs "trolls".

I guess from this post I'm considered a "retard" lol I'm sure a lot of you have seen me in the off topic section arguing with those two for the past two nights. It got way outta hand on MY part and the "trolls/noobs" part.

i suggested once, and i stand by this idea, when i member joins this site, their first 10 or so post should be approved by mods before it can be officially posted for others to read, i have seen this on many other site, and i think it works effectively enough to have us ban spammers before anyone can see their post.

I think that would be an effective and excellent way to eliminate this "troll" problem, and also hopefully most of the spam problems CC has.

actually we have seen some spammer who registered like a month or 2 ago come back and post, they're not caught when they first join cause they don't post, so know one knows they exist till they do like a month or more later, then sure they get banned, so i'm not positive that a time frame would work as well as a post approval would, but you never know.

Is there anyway they can go through a cross checking process where it checks their IP address to ensure they don't make more then one account?

Yeah well you would think the mods would check IP locations when things seem fishy, but that hasn't been the case lately. More of a reason to bring this issue to the surface.

as soon as I see a fishy member I run a ip check, usually with nothing found. With these newer member in question, a thread was made 3 days ago (before any of you could suggest it) about these members. Myself and I'm sure others did as well, checked their ip's with nothing fishy behind them.

Well it reassuring to know you do that, but I guarantee some of these members are posting the same time on a CPU and an alternate device such like their phones, PSP, etc. In the end there will always be trolls, and I think we should take the same precautionary measures just like every other forum.

Say you ban a troll or a spammer who deserved it, he's gonna be back with a different screen name. Nothing is stopping him to pick up where he left off. If there was a trial period, it is very unlikely that they will have the patience to come back. I don't get why this is such a far fetched idea, it's common practice with most forums. We can't do anything currently with the members already registered, but something as simple as trial membership in off topic can only improve this forum in the future.

It's impossible, it's just the way trolling goes in a large forum. Many people get tricked into thinking that a troll is being serious, I usually don't respond to those threads until the 10 page point when things just get really pointless.

I'm not sure that we necessarily think things are fine the way we are. This hasn't been an ignored issue as this thread title suggests. We've just been trying to figure out the best way to deal with it.

yup, I know trolls can just come back and create a different screen name or have a dynamic ip. We're usually good at finding them but of course a few slip away. I'm sure longgrain is back around with a different sn but that's just because he can't stay away from this site evn tho he supposedly hates it and it's members/staff.

A trial process would be for new members. They would go through a "trail" period to make sure they arn't spammers or..idiots. Cough.
