wow i can see that you have done quite some planning here, amazing work for first fibre glass.

a question i have is:
where the plastic panels are for the tire/suspension well, is there a way lay down the fibre glass to it i get exact contour without it sticking to the plastic? i hope u understand what i mean.

i plan to have mdf frame but on those well things i would like to have the exact contour for my enclosure to sit on on/around it.

i have used painters tape as you can see from the first page of the thread and the fiberglass will release from it i would use aluminum foil with a spray adhesive and use chopped matting overlaying each piece kinda like laying shingles on a roof that ensures strength once cured and make sure you think about how your piece will come off and go back on you dont want an awkward angle to make it impossible to release from the shock tower and inner tire well, i was going to use the original carpeting that came with my car and use fiberglass on it but i didnt like where i was headed so i started my own custom panels, i will say that i did do a piece of the original carpeting in fiberglass and it worked very well as is but you have got to prepare your area with tape and painters drop plastic anything really to ensure you dont get the resin on anything you dont want it to be on, this results in a permanent addition to anything it cures to hope that helps

ive been working on this project off and on for over a year now i have about 25 hours in trial and error alone the speaker box once i got everything going well took about 100 hours and the interior paneling is about 20 hours right now where im at, ive decided when its done it will have display casing for my tools with acrylic panels and black vinyl to wrap all the pieces, everything you see now will be hidden except for the rack above the enclosure thank you everyone for the positive feedback it really gives me motivation to get up and work on it unfortunately there wont be any more updates until Tuesday or Wednesday

i had my first official catastrophe with glass today the latest pictures of the driver tail light panel was successful by all measures good template using tape, good adhesion with the chopped matting and no problems with the application of the glass resin, it even cured rather well with minimal imperfections and was removed and strengthened with no issues reverse the side reverse outcome all together, tape adhesion- sucked, tried a different approach this morning using aluminum foil and taped the edges-worked, good adhesion of the chopped strand matting-sweet, but when i applied the resin the glass tore down the spray adhesive holding the chopped strand-pissed off doesn't sum it up. back to the drawing board if anyone out there knows of a good way to achieve the outcome im looking for through a different more effective method, please let me know

ricer! keep it oem
what the f**k are you even talking about.. what does hand constructing an entire trunk enclosure from fiberglass have to do with being a ricer... being a ricer is a mentality.. and in many cases i have seen PLENTY of "jdm" fanboys who fall WELL within the ricer category.. he is creating something that is completely functional.. something that he cares about..

oc- thanks for defending my work however i don't even know what being a ricer entails and if its those fags out there that put the aftermarket crap on their rides to make it look cool with no functionality then you're right that is a mentality cuz they are mental for thinking that crap makes their rides "official" i enjoy doing things my own way and if that makes me a "ricer" then i don't care who thinks what because they dont know me or what i am about, i would say that stereotyping someone on their own custom work makes that person ignorant and completely not in tune to their own style Honda's are great cars and a lot of the different body codes and oem equipped civics out there look awesome, if i could have found a civic si with all the bells and whistles when i was car shopping for a descent price tag believe me i wouldn't be driving my dx with manual doors and cloth interior seats but i would be doing this same project in the trunk because that's who i am and that's where i feel i can make the car "my own". one of the upcoming projects to my car will include a custom spoiler once again made from my own hands forced from necessity and inspired by my will and want to make my car "mine" and it wont be bought from pep boys, and wont be bolted (or glued) onto my car, no spinning hub caps and spray painted bumpers, to each their own i have seen a lot of auto tragedies in my life and believe me when im done i wont be the joke pushing my beater down the road with glued on parts:twisted:
