So I've been having this problem... I have a custom built computer my friend put together for me. I trust him. He knows a lot about computers and has been building them for a long time. He uses custom computers too.

Here are the basic specs: amd 7850 dual core, radeon 4850 gfx card, 4gb memory, gigabyte MA78LM-S2 mobo (click for link), WD 32mb cache hdd, windows xp. In my catalyst control center, I have my vertical refresh turned off, and all the 3d settings turned to "performance" instead of "quality".

Now when I play WoW, I can barely break 100-120 fps and that's when I'm in the middle of nowhere and nothing is around except trees and s**t. And EVERY SINGLE video setting except view distance (half way) is turned off. When I enter cities or raid, my s**t drops down anywhere between 5 and 40-50. I simply don't understand why my computer can't handle this game. I mean, I have a pretty good system. This game is the only one I play that takes the most graphics.

Anyone have input?

100-120fps??? Holy s**t. That's a lot of motherfuckin fps. I'm thrilled to get 10 in 25mans.

Here is what I have found though, at least in game to help a little bit. Make sure your refresh rate in your video settings is matched to your monitors actual refresh rate. Mine was set at 60Hz and my monitor refreshes at 75Hz. Next, type, in game, /console maxfps400, as this is the highest the game will allow, and after a few minutes, you should see a small improvement, if not more. Make sure you do the refresh thing first though.

That's when I'm in the middle of no where. When my friend is in the middle of no where, he gets 2-300. That was before SLI. He gets a little more after getting SLI. When I'm in Dalaran, I'm lucky to break 30 or 40. He's still 100/150+. I mean yeah, his computer is completely decked out. But I still don't get why I get so low FPS. When I raid in ICC25 and we do crazy AOE, I drop down to nearly 1 fps.

Yah. I get about 40 in Dal too. Try the refresh match/console maxfps trick. That would be my only suggestion. Other than that, you got me.

lol turn of shadows. you're frame rate will skyrocket.
EVERY SINGLE video setting except view distance (half way) is turned off.
Vertical sync is off, I'm in windowed mode, multisampling is on the lowest setting, all 4 effects in the "effects" are unchecked.

It has to do with the game. I know of dual video cards that have trouble hitting 30fps in popular cities.

If it's the game, how does my friend have over 100? Granted he has a better computer but it's not like my computer sucks. It's good. Just not amazing.

i built my own computer an im running dual 1gig nvidia gts 250's, intel DX58SO mainboard, intel extreme i7 980x hexi core, with 16 gigs of ram.....i have no problems besides the fact im running a ultra x4 1600 watt modular power supply

you have to remember tho...your whole computer has to function as one...so if its acting like you say theres deff a problem, if i were you i would contact ati and tell them whats going on. besides that imo your board sucks. i dont like amd boards at all....or msi boards. they just cant deliver what i want.

Does it really suck? I know jack s**t about building computers and in the beginning, I told him to use good parts. Not mediocre but not top of the line, I just wanted something that could handle WoW with ease. But this has problems some of the time. I dual box too so s**t gets bad sometimes when I'm doing certain things dual boxing (ie - both toons in dalaran).

That's why.

But I also find it funny you went with a 1000 dollar processor, 600 dollar ram, and yet, went with two 130 dollar video cards.

It has to do with the game. I've built Intel Core i7, a 5870 and it has trouble in one city, forgot what one

Probably Dalaran. It's the newest city that came with the newest expansion. The floating island right?

And I really don't think it has to do with the game. My friend manages 100+ fps in the city I'm talking about. It's where all the level 80's hang out.

I know, but after I got the board, cpu, an ram I was getting short on funds. I like em an have had no problem with them. still wanting to upgrade but haven't really decided on which ones to get. I wanted to get the main part out of the way... but still have graphic capabilities

It. Has. To. Do. With. The. Game. Period.

That's it. It has to do with the game and how it handles the hardware it has.

There we go. Finally got you to say it lol.

If my friend can get 100+ fps in the same spot where I get 30fps, it's the hardware ;). Did I mention he pretty much uses medium-high video settings? I have EVERYTHING turned off/down.
