Alright, I think I may go with a new crank. One of my goals is being able to rev the s**t out of this thing, but with the asstastic rod/stroke ratio of the A6 block (and all 1.6L D-series, actually), I'm seriously considering de-stroking it and using custom length rods for a shorter stroke. Larry Widmer at Endyn did this when he supercharged his EF, and I believe they have a rod/piston/crank de-stroking combination for D-series motors in stock. With upgraded springs and valves and a vastly improved rod to stroke ratio, should be able to rev that sucker up to 10k without everything flying apart.
This is going to be really expensive ($1500+), not to mention I'd like to use his Bump-Stix cam, which is another $550. Thankfully, when I can afford it, the head can get sent in and worked on (that guy's a wizard with a grinder) and I can keep driving the car. So at least the order of things I need to do is coming together.
Thoughts on de-stroking for a better ratio, anyone?
