I know exactly what it is b/c I used to have it on my crx.I think you're missing the point of an FM transmitter. An FM Transmitter is used to broadcast the music/sound on your device (iPod, iPhone, etc) through a temporary FM frequency... allowing the music from your device to be heard through your car stereo system.
In other words - you play a song on the iPod and it comes out of your car speakers. The problem with the iPhone is that either A) it puts out so much interference that an FM transmitter can't overpower it or B) A compatible, powerful FM transmitter just hasn't been created for it yet. This is why I cannot use the iPhone.
You must've had a bad transmitter then. Because whether I use my iPhone or iTouch, I get close to no static at all. Whether it's playing the iPod or using Pandora. This post explains why I don't want to use my iPhone
^^Dude, I don't even wanna spend money on an iPod...
And I love my iPhone otherwise
why do you want to use a transmitter? just a get a aux cord, plug it into your phone then into the radio. done. This post explains why I don't want to use my iPhone
6th gens don't have a port either. if you have an after market deck it has the port in the back of the deck. i had it ran through my dash into my console, and it was free. you can DIY, but i was just hanging out at my buddy's shop and he threw it in. it's simple. it's a simple cord.^^ 7th gens don't have an aux port... or at least the EXs don't (maybe the Si does?)
Low - How much did it cost you to have that installed. I always assumed it was a fairly expensive procedure (I'd do it myself, but I have zero knowledge when it comes to wiring.)
John - I bought the same brand that I used for my iPod (except it was double the price that it used to be), but it was total crap. I went online to find a new one, but none of the transmitters had good reviews. Which transmitter do you use with your iPhone?
Honestly man... Get a headunit with a USB port on it. I think pretty much every headunit these days comes with either aux or USB. AND they're not all that expensive. You can keep an iPod in the car and only take it out when you want to update the music, otherwise it charges through the headunit and is controlled through the headunit (as long as you do USB, not aux). You can run the cord behind the dash and into the glove box so it's hidden. Or if you want to use your iPhone, run it behind the dash, under the center console and poke it out somewhere so the cord isn't in the way.hmm.. a couple of routes I can go with this now.... It would be nice to have a direct aux cord, but it's $100 + removing dash components. I can look at the transmitter John posted, but it actually got really horrible reviews for its signal, or I can look at a new mp3 player, but there's no guarantee that it's going to be any different than my phone... or finally I can look at getting a used iPod and have a guaranteed fix, but you never know what's been done to it or how long it'll last.
I appreciate all the help guys!
Honestly this is the worst idea. You don't want a non factory head unit in your car. It raises the risk of it getting broken into a million percent. Plus having an iPod in the car is a bad idea too. I swear thieves can smell iPods or something. People get their civics jacked all the time for head units and iPods. Keep it factory bro. Stay safe.Honestly man... While I agree with you, I'm willing to bet there are just as many Civic's with aftermarket headunits that don't get broken into. I also take my faceplate off and take it with me if I go somewhere sketchy.Honestly this is the worst idea. You don't want a non factory head unit in your car.
