I have a 2000 civic ex which is basically stock except for the audio system. I bought it about 2 months ago and it has 160,000 miles on it. Can you guys help me out choosing what to do first to the car? I dont currently have a stable job lol

You can try de-badging the emblems from the rear. Cheap and simple.

cold air? from where?

adding a filter to your stock setup will make it a HOT air intake. might as well run a pipe directly from your exhaust to your intake. The most you will ever get is an ambient air intake.

best mod? the best mod is the tune up. before making it "faster" first make it factory spec. after miles of wear and tear you lose factory stock power. change all you can with NEW oem parts.

if you don't want to do the basics and want fake power then get an exhaust or strut bar brace. or gauges or stickers.

What year is your Civic. Check Craigslist, I'm in the Chicago area too and there is always a lot on there.

If you don't have a stable job, why waste money? Just take care of the car with maintenance/repair, wash, clay bar, buff, wax, bay wash, deep clean interior, etc.

I second this. If you don't have a steady job, don't throw money at something that requires gas and maintenance.

Cars can be a VERY fun hobby but it will also rob you of your money if you keep dumping money into it. There will always be something more you want to do or something you want to change.

Yup. Cars are expensive to play with. There are some "freebee" DIYs but there's usually some sort of cost involved, nothings truly free lol. Don't go cheap either. Building your car from eBay is not only terrible, you may end up spending more of your money replacing those cheap parts with better ones because they either don't fit, don't last, or don't look good. There's a reason why it's cheap.

what should i look for on there though?
For the parts that you want to put on your car.

You seriously want the public to tell you how to use the money you don't have? That just doesn;t make sense to me man, at all. Im afraid that you don't have a single clue about what you want out of this car. Determine what type of car this will be. For example.

1. a regular ass car
2. a lowrider car
3. a car with a bunch of Japanese look alike plastic parts made in china.
4. a street racer car
5. a drag racer car.
6. a car with some sick sounds.
7. a car that looks fast but is slow as sh*t - vice versa

The list doesn't stop at 7 because it is determine by you, the car owner.

Read. Tons of free literature on the internet.

Make sure performance wise it's near perfect; you don't want to have a nice looking car that sucks s**t; it's better to have a bad looking car that looks like s**t because the aesthetics are cheap to fix, but engines not.

Change fluids and service the parts for any problems. Don't tell yourself "i'll do it tomorrow" because if you wait, it adds on. If you see a problem and you know the problem go straight to the store and get what you need or go on YT, HT or here on CC for more help.

If you don't have a lot of money; put it to good use; don't push it into the looks where you'll just wear out the car along the way.

OK Kiddo....you need to sit back and use this magical thing called the internet. You MIGHT just be on it when you reply to this thread!

Go to Google(it's a fairly new search engine..heard it's pretty decent though), and type in your year/make/model and put, oh, I dunno..."routine maintenance" after it. You should also go to Wiki and type in your car b/c it'll give the specs pretty accurately so you know what Google is talking about. This might require you to have 2 tabs open, so be careful.

Once you get reading about that, go drive your car, let it sit and idle, see if you notice 'issues'. Then get BACK on that internet and type into Google what the car is doing instead of making a new thread, or use the search button on here but remember...try many search variations first.

Before you start asking questions about which maintenance brands to get, GOOGLE Honda OEM and more common parts.

Lastly, I don't know how you're going to do ANY of this without having steady income. Get a better job, save your money, and/or leave your car alone.
