Well I picked up a few things to get the ball rolling a bit with the b16. I picked up some high temp aluminum engine paint as well as some bolts to mount the block to my engine stand. I also received the AC/PS belts in the mail. I still need to get timing chain covers and a few more Misc bolts and I'll have a complete block. Debating if I should get the head machined just to fresh it up a bit. I also still need a tranny, axles, shift linkage and a ecu.

I manage to get the engine on the stand and I started to clean the block with some break cleaner. I didn't do much since I ran out of daylight. I should be receiving the header tomorrow so that will be the next task on the to do list.

Received my header today and installed it. Overall the header is good. Perfect fitment and decent quality for $50.

Got a chance to take off the oil pan and look inside the motor. Everything looked to be in great shape. I decided to use a torque wrench and check to make sure the cap and rod bolts where tight. Everything check out to spec so I put everything back together. I also degreased and painted the block in some cast aluminum engine paint to give it a more desirable look.

Picked up obd2 b16 intake manifold since I has a older manifold.

I also notice this on my head

Is this the Hmotorsonline stamp?

yup that's a hmotors stamp. They started doing those stamps in more places a few years ago. Whoever had that head must have beat the crap out of the motor lol

I have no idea what the history behind the head is but I plan to get it resurfaced and throw in some dual valves spring and retainers.

Tiny update. I finally got a chance to pick up some new tools since I was in need of some badly. Once I had those I was able to disassemble my head to get it ready to be sent to the machine shop. I plan to get it resurfaced and cleaned. I haven't had much time to do car related things but when life gets a little more laid back I'll be ready to do a lot of things in a quick period.

it's not good to lay cams and cranks on their side just so you know. and hopefully you labeled all the cam caps since they have a specific spot they gotta be in

Why is laying them down bad? The cam caps on a b16 are numbered already from factory with arrows which should point towards the cam gear when installed.

causes slight warpage in then, it doesn't take much when your dealing with .0010 of an inch sometimes. just like valves need to be out in the same spot also.

but that's if you want a properly built engine. to build one right takes weeks of work

There's a lot of people, teams, and manufacturers you need to tell that to then.

well I mean if you do all the measurements yourself. if you have a machine shop they do it for 8 hours straight and have every tool possible ready to go

I mean unless colleges are teaching the wrong thing now in the engine rebuilding ad machine shop classes

It's proper information, but it's also generalized information. The way his cams are, they are not going to be effected. A cam with no gear on it, laying on its lobes on a hard or dirty surface could make small changes in such a precisely designed piece.

Gotta apply that college education

I did

with the gear on the end, the center isn't supported. it won't stay 100% true straight with time

but to each their own. why risk it, gravity doesn't lie

to each their own. I'll just listen to the professionals. just like theirs an order in which your supposed to remove cam caps because t can warp it or even snap it
