You should be able to use any 5-speed D series transmission. There are minor differences, so your best bet would be to find a transmission off a D16Z6 or D16Y8 (shortest gears).

Yeah, makes sense. Have you tried adjusting the valves?

You should be able to switch to synthetic though without valve tick. I believe switching back to conventional isn't good though, so I've heard. I had valve tick also. Adjusted the valves and it was better, but could still hear it. Then I went B-series. ;)

Yep. Get a fender roller. Depending on tire size and how low you plan on going you may not need to even do that though. If you want to slam though rolling your fenders would be your best bet.
