Yeah, around here it varies as well... sometimes theres local tuner specials or "dyno days" that are cheaper than the normal price. Your best bet is to call shops around you, ask for their prices, and ask if they have any specials events or deals coming up.

Had a Vizio.. lasted less than three years; the backlight on the left side "died". It flickers on and off, but usually stays on after it warms up 20-30 minutes later.

Do you have a heat shield over the exhaust manifold? Those are known for vibrating a lot.

Are the plug wires in the correct order? Your ignition timing could be off too.

Exactly. Like the owner abusing the car and/or driving like a d**k, probably beating the crap out of the motor. If you want to find something already built make sure there's no issues (and properly tuned)... will cost you a little more but would be worth it in the end.
