do you have em1 on your vin # if you do then you have a true gem, the SI's with y8's are as rare as they come.
No they aren't.... they're just Canadian.

If your car is an EM1 and a Y8 was swapped in its place before sale then damn... Reminds me of the Hertz GT350H Mustangs.
I always loved those stories.
Judging from this photo in her profile though.... this is a USDM Si, just with the B16A2 swapped out for a D16Y8. $9,000 is a bit steep for an EX, but at lwast it had low miles.

does it really say "VTECH" last time i checked it says V-TEC...
Last time I checked it said "VTEC".

wow way to get all technical ooo i threw in a dash. i know what it is. and im not the one that didnt check under the hood to see if it was an si or ex. so i dont see myself as being ignorant and if anyone takes it that was im sorry it just seems like a dumb mistake to me. i know when i buy something i do a little more research on it.
Not knowing the difference between a B16 and a D16 does not make one ignorant. It makes a person normal. Come on, most people don't know as mcuh about cars as even the general populous of this website. Almost anyone on this site could have done the same thing just a couple years ago. You didn't always know.
I'd just save up and swap in the correct motor later on down the road.

Here's acouple things about your car.
First its not EPB, its really close but a completely different shade. Its darker, the light in the garage tell us the whole story. Second, no VIN stickers on the quarterpanels; Usually when a car is completely repainted due to some kind of accident or whatever, they will paint over that it will completely leave it alone, in your pictures I don't see any VIN stickers. Your side skirts are also painted to match the color of the car. My advice, let me say I haven't read this thread completely, Carfax your VIN number and find out if the car has been in a major accident, unfortunately without VIN stickers and a completely different engine could result it reporting a major accident. If the VIN shows no reports, make sure all your vins correctly represent the SAME VIN throughout the car, there are several points throughout the car that have your VIN number engraved. If you find something, call the police and sue the living asshat out of the person who sold you this car.
I'm pretty sure i's EBP. In order to see the color code, open the driver's door. It's near the latch in the doorjam. It should read B-95P on a sticker in there.

wow..dang...sorry i didn't know you was a ladie...waskinda harsh..but sorry to hear about this mishap. The first owner was a d**k....he probably knew that he would cell it to "unsuspecting" customers. you should get after the seller because 9 gran is a lot for a b16 si. around here, i can find a nice one for 7 or 8 grand. dont' worry if you lose the car, because if you get 9gs back, u can get another one. they are everywhere.
Not really. Most Civic EXs cost about 7-9k (depending on condition, miles) in Delaware. You'd be lucky to find an Si for $10k there. Prices are different throughout the country. Hondas weren't super common there either though. When I was in CT at least... Jesus... it was like Land of Hondas.

Whoaaa turbo.. I did CARFAX before i bought it.. Its a clear title, no accidents.. its a real SI, just the wrong engine... Thanks for the help though. Sadly.. I bought this car in October.. and just last night realized all this.. god, im a dumbass.
You're not a dumbass. Most people who buys cars never would have even noticed. I give you props for trying to find out more about it at least. And don't worry, the guys who trashed you for not knowing then, they've made mistakes too.
Slick_99 said:
If thats the case, the guy blew the b16 swapped in an EX motor and thats all she wrote. Sue, I would, actually I would break his f**king legs and then take my money, but thats just me.
God luck, with that, alot of virgin Si's in Miami, Florida if you around here. They go for about 7-8k here.
She's in Oregon.

its valve timing and electronic controll for short. ive done plenty of reading up on it.
NO, it isn't. It's VTEC for short. There is no middle ground here. It has one abbreivation.
emilyfersure said:
Is that cheaper than a b16:?
A K-series woudl set you back $5-8k. It's an uncommon and newer swap, parts are generally more expensive than most swaps plus all the bugs aren't as well known as most B-series swaps.

Hm. My dad can actually drop the engine in.. We just met with the guy.. Hes giving us 3,250 back.. .So im excitied.. I get to keep my car and get a real engine in it!
Sweet! Good luck with fixing your car.
SaxMachine said:
Awesome! In that case if you can find a nice K, go for it! Tell him it's like a big block for Hondas.
Jesus... you'd be lucky to find the motor alone for that much (the K-series I mean). DO NOT do a K swap! You have to be fairly devoted and your pockets lined well enough in order to do this swap. It'd be better to even go with an Integra B18 instead. There's a good chance you'd still end up paying more than you would for the B16A2 though.
The B16A2 (it's from '99-'00 Civic Sis only) is the stock motor for your car btw.
emilyfersure said:
My dad found a b18 with like 42k miles on it for 2,300.. Gonna go look @ it later today
You'll have to find out which B18 it is though to be sure if you want it. There should be a stamp on the block that will read (for example) B18C1.

caused only a real man can pop the hood and tell the diffrence between a b16 and a d16 ? i think it just takes someone who just takes the time to think first befor buying a car.
i am going to run outside and see if my car has a b16 just in case i am lucky enought to get one instead of a d16 after months and months of owning a car
My dad wouldn't know if my car should have a DOHC or a SOHC. He'd just know if it ran right. My dad's a mechanic (for longer than I've been alive). He just doesn't know or care to know about Hondas. (Actually he's just recently became interested in getting a Honda for better gas mileage).
emilyfersure said:
haha okay okay.. ill try and get back on track.. my ex boyfriend has a prelude engine... he said i could have it if... i got back together with him.. im trying to get him to just sell it to me.
I'd steer clear of the Prelude motor. Just not my preference. I'd stick with a B-series.
emilyfersure said:
listen.. nobody needs your attitude... the engine thing is comming along okay, my dads found a few engines that have sparked his intrest. found a b18 with everything for 1,750.. thinking about that...
There are a lot of different B18s out there. Some you don't want to deal with. You might want to take photos or record all info you find on it (like that engine code I mentioned earlier).
emilyfersure said:
Get the engine code from it before you buy! A B18C is an overseas motor. I wouldn't be 100% convinced this motor for sale is from overseas though. I'd go for a working engine instead of one that needs work. You can't be sure how long the car will be off the road if it needs some work.
Btw, I'm Amelia. I live in Olympia, WA and I know a bit about Hondas. I can hook you up with other local sites and people that you might be interested in. Most are in the Oly area though. Oh, and I also usually don't get along with other girls. But I don't think a lot of girls do.
