:what: I only point out people are wrong... when they are. I agree with people when they're right too. :retard: Oh, and if I assume something is correct, I say I assume such and such is the same or I assume it works whatever way. If I'm sure, I say what it does, what's wrong, what the information is, etc.

I'm not sure how to make you happier here besides agree that you're always right all the time or if I should just come in and meekly say, "excuse me... i'm only a girl... so i don't know that much because i have a vagina.... but um.... i think that you should polish and glaze that paint... and maybe then you might want to apply wax. you know, to protect it. at least that's what my boyfriend told me." *Goes back to the kitchen. Burns stuff because she can't cook.*

If I'm going to spend $9,000 on a car, I'm going to stop being a cheap ass and take it to the local Honda dealer, where I'll pay $50 at the most to have the inspection done. No matter how much you know about cars, its always possible to overlook s**t when buying a car you really like. With a checklist of things to check, its much easier. Male or female, young or old, someone who pays that much for a car, without either knowing something about it, or taking it to someone who does, is an idiot. A simple trip to the Honda dealer before handing over money for this car would have solved the problem, hell a trip to a decently skilled mechanic could have prevented this...

I'll just have Honda come to me for free  My friend Doug is a Honda mechanic. And a damn good one. This guy can weave a wire harness without a diagram. He just ... KNOWS what needs to be there. Tell him the car, tell him the motor, tell him the options. BOOM, wire harness.

There's a flaw with bringing a car to Honda for an inpection (or most work even). I've had technicians try to convince me my hood cable was snapped... because it didn't spring back (it still opened the hood.... all a hood cable really is is basically a cable in a tube). He tried to walk by me and told me he'd set me up to buy a new one (I'm allowed in that shop for a reason... lol - I am known at the Honda dealership and it's generally known not to try to f**k over friends of the stealership).

My point here though is that as a female particuarlly, we have trouble going to dealerships and such because some of the shadier men expect that we don't know ANYTHING about cars. And therefore they will try to screw you out of as much as they can. This is why it's recommended to bring a male with you if you're female, even if you can hold your own. Harsh reality. :???:

Sounds like a good guy, too bad he didn't come across this one before it was sold to an unsuspecting buyer. I mean, how long does it take to look at the car, notice the "DOHC VTEC" below the door, look at the motor, and realize that something isn't right. I don't care if you know cars or not, if you can't tell the difference between single camshaft engine, and dual camshaft engine, and it takes a while for you to come across somebody who does, then you probably shouldn't be driving in the first place...

I thought she said her father went with her to look at the car. Maybe he didn't notice the DOHC VTEC stickers on the side of the car? Maybe they meant as much to him as Type R stickers though. :what:

Ok good points. I just think it's hilarious that you have actually spent time of your life debating such comments as "it's pretty much an EX", "I'd rather have an EX than an Si with the EX drivetrain", etc. WE GET IT. YOU KNOW ALOT. Pat yourself on the back and sleep with a smile. Of course the dealership is going to try to screw some people, but I would much rather buy a hood cable I don't need than a $9,000 with the wrong engine, understand? See what I'm saying? Had the car been expected, there's a good chance that SOMEONE at the Honda "stealership" would have noticed that something wasn't right, maybe not, but I'd take the odds...

Meh, that's what I said. A dual runner ... welll ... looks like it has two cams. A single .... looks like it has .... one  But I can understand how someone who doesn't know about cars would mistake it. Her dad probably didn't even know the car was supposed to come DOHC. Probably didn't even notice the sticker, or didn't pay it any mind.

But yeah, since the sohc has a smooth valve cover and the cover over the cam, it could mistaken. Just look at the new motors on some cars, one smooth piece of plastic over everything. f**k, there could be 5 cams down there, for all we know

It's not about debating someone's wording. It's about battling misinformation. If someone says somethign that's WRONG, then that should be corrected.

Saying that an Si with an EX motor is an EX .... is .... well, wrong.

Ok, enough senseless babbling from everyone. Let's make a long story short...

Someone (happens to be female in this case) bought a car without doing proper research before making a large investment. They bought an Si, that will get rolled out on by pretty much any other single-cam Civic, maybe even some non-VTEC's. They are now screwed on the whole situation. Hard lesson learned. The End.

Oh yeah, I left out the part where the guy with the EX is smashing on unsuspecting Si owners...

And I wasn't seriously stating it as fact, its my opinion, and no matter what anyone on here says, the Si with the Y8 will be slower (and alot...gayer, for lack of a better word) than an EX...

Why would an Si with a Y8 be gayer than an EX with a Y8?

The Si has the following things that are cooler than an EX:

Alloy Wheels
Stiffer Springs
Higher Dampening Shocks
Front + Rear Sway Bar
4W Disc
Front Lip
CTR-esque Grill
Special Colors (EBP, FBP)
Mildly Bolstered Seats
Amber Cluster/Dash Lighting
Special Gauge Cluster
Leather shiftknob and boot

Yeah, all those things are way gayer than stock.

PS - It won't be slower than an EX ... it'll be the SAME speed. It's the exact same body .... with the same motor.

The EX is lighter, and therefore has more potential than the EM1 with the Y8. Oh yeah, one more thing, THE Y8 IS SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE EX! I'm going to have the assurance that the motor probably has the mileage the odometer says it does. For all the new owners of this Y8/Si know, that Y8 could hundreds of thousands of miles on it!

All those extra options add weight dude, remember than, the EX is lighter than the Si!!!

I'll take the stock EX, with the D16Y8, over the Si with the D16Y8, for the simple fact that the EX will be quicker, lighter, and probably cheaper on insurance...

Curb weights:

1999 EX Coupe - 2513lb

1999 Si Coupe - 2612lb

Gee ... I wonder if that 100lb's could be the upgraded suspension and the DOHC motor over the SOHC motor?

Ok so you just proven my point. The suspension and rear discs will add more weight on the Si, not to mention the seats, front lip, whether or not the EX has a power sunroof, etc. Same motor, same chasis, different weights...

Lip = 2lb's ... max.

Wheels = 3-4lb's each over steelies with hubcaps.

Seats = mabye 1lb each more.

All EX's had moonroofs, as did Si's. So no gain there.

4W Disc will weigh more, yes. Maybe like 30lb.

The real meat is the motor. a dohc head is just plain HEAVIER than a sohc head. And a b16 block is stouter, and has a slightly bigger bore.

So really, when it comes down to it, when they have the same motor, there's a MAX weight difference of 40 lbs. That's .04 seconds faster in a quarter mile with the EXACT same conditions. And with the Si wheels being wider, that's improved traction, and thus a better launch.

Take into account that certain things, like the rear discs, spoiler, seats, will make a difference in weight distribution, probably enough to counter that "better launch". Either way, the EX would be faster, I don't care if it's only a tenth of a second, it's still faster...

An EX, stock, is a decent car. An Si, with a D16Y8, is a tragedy, and an embarassment...
