The best ECU to use is the ECU that originally ran the motor. I forgot what it is called..Originally posted by outofstep
im getting ready to put in one of those jdm d15b vtec motors, and im gonna get an 90-91 si tranny, i was gonna get a 90-91 ecu, then relized those years didnt have vtec... so i was wondering what would be the best ecu to use?
That is not correct, the stock p08 ecu from the 92-95 civic vti with the d15b vtec does not have a 3-stage vtec. That is only in the 96-98 models. If you are going odb1 the use can use the stock p08 ecu that comes with that motor, becuase it doesn't require switching over to a 4-wire o2 sensor, or you can use a p28 but, you would have to get a 4-wire o2 sensor. If you are staying odb0 then, you need the si ecu, or zc ecu, and vafc or msd switch. I converted over to odb1 in my 91 dx with the p08 ecu, and odb0-> odb1 convertion harness.Originally posted by outofstep
ok well actually that stock ecu is set for 3 stage vtec, so its like
1/3 then 2/3 then full vtec and id rather have it kick in full, thats more of an economy feature, i gonna go with a si ecu and just get an apexi vafc or chip my ecu with the mapping i need, thanks this was actually an older post lol
if the ecu does not come with the motor you can use on of of a 94-99 civic ex, works fine, the only code it will throw out is the o2 sensorOriginally posted by outofstep
