Oh, that was a guess, hence the "or something." The point was it was just a cheap slow ass car that beat an EVO in a top gear test. That's sweet about the evo9 but I don't know how true it is since it's the same engine and tranny, the only upgrades they have been doing recently is in variable valve timing and tuning the cams and fuel management to gain a few hp here and there. I love the subtle changes they made to the EVO 9's front though.

P.S. I, nor any members participating in the growth or production of clubcivic hate Koreans or anybody that is related to or knows a Korean. We all love Korean food as well.

for the top gear clip: how often are you in 5th (or was it 6th? can't remember) at 35mph? it's a retarded test and top gear generally does those kinds of tests for shock value or just for pure entertainment. remember, these are the guys that played ice hockey and soccer with cars.

as far as modding the 9 goes, i've said it before: the 9 is a big upgrade and it's a mistake to consider the 8 and 9 to be similar. the mivec is a huge upgrade. the compressor housing on the turbo is larger, all the changes are good for about 25-30whp, and the mod gains are much, much greater for the 9... also, the 11.95 run is on video and verified by a very, very reputable shop.

edit: here's a different evo9 than the 11.95 one discussed... it has intake, exhaust, and is dynoflashed... the owner put in a few gallons of 100oct (or was it 112? i can't remember) and turned up the boost a little.

What I dont get, is where do you get off calling me a ricer?

You're right, I dont have a dyno graph to prove to you that the K20AR I'm reffering to made nearly 290whp. I've never seen it either, it was a claim by one of the best K series tuners in Europe. But I beleive him, and I dont have to see it with my own eyes.

Again, a K powered Civic will run 12s.. stock. Intake, header, and exhaust.. no one said you need slicks? I simply said we used them... What you didnt point out, was that it was a K20A2. If it were a K20A Type R the LSD would be factory, and in the case of an intake being used..it was really a filter. Not much of an "intake". So, that leaves the header.. not going to argue with you there, its IMPOSSIBLE to use the factory DC5 header. ECU as well, you cant even use a Type S ECU..so a KPRO was used.

- No Boost..No Nitrous..The valve cover was never taken off... simply stock.

I dont know what else to say.. Do you honestly think that your car is faster than a K Civic? And why are you bashing them.. they are the future for Honda.

- Define "chassis work"? That hasnt really stopped anyone else from running 12s.

I'm changing the mods..? If you actually looked at IPS's website, you'd see that the K2 cams require valvesprings and retainers, as with ANY other high lift/long duration cam profile. That not another mod, I assumed you knew that.

Who are you to say what pocket change is? lol.. You cant afford it? Thats too bad because a lot of people can, and more and more people do the swap everyday.

I dont really care to argue with you anymore about this matter, because it's getting no where. And the dyno graph of the A2 making 230whp is amazing. Take the R, same setup as the graph, add a set of killer cams, ITB's, race header.. and tuning your going to make serious power. Maybe the guys over in Europe know something we dont, but by his claim it was nearly 290whp.

The top gear test is to test low end torque and to show how much lag the EVO has. When racing, you aren't gonna start in 6th obviously, but even if it does it to an extreme, a top gear test points out very very clearly the weakness's that the EVO has, one of which being turbo lag.

In that video, they tested the FX45 or whatever, which was the modified version (450hp)of the EVO VIII. The regular Evolution's turbo lag isnt as bad as the one in the video.

because you make preposterous claims that you yourself admit you have no proof of.

so you've added intake, kpro, and a header and call all that stock? simply because you can't use "stock" bits and were 'forced' to use "upgraded" bits doesn't make it stock. let's see... you messed with the tuning in the kpro right? the fuel has been changed from stock levels? timing? i don't know much about kpro so why don't you tell me how rich or lean a stock k20a is running compared to your k20 civic. and this is all with the cat, right? and why don't you run it without slicks? you don't think .2 of a second can be gained with a 1.8 60' compared to a shitty ass 60' with the stock civic tires? please.

and going from your ACTUAL time run (the k20a2) to a THEORETICAL ("if" it were a k20a) time run? that's cute.

and everyone knows an intake works wonders on the k-series engines.. this is not rocket science. it's one of the most basic mods... intake, img, header, hondata on a k20a2 can fetch you roughly 200whp--i know what that's capable of, i've raced a 200whp rsx-s. it's quick. oh, but it's just a filter right? yeah, that couldn't possibly help the restrictive stock intake on a k20a2.

BOLT ONS ARE NOT STOCK.

i understand what most people mean when they say "stock engine" as far as internal work.. but it's still NOT STOCK, even if you're 'FORCED' to use aftermarket parts... and it's laughable to consider tuning to be stock.

when the f**k did i say my car is faster than a k civic? i'll say one thing: a civic with a 10k swap dropped in it isn't as fast as an evo with 10k dropped in it, drag strip or road course.

DigitalShift said:

chassis work, to me, usually means losing weight and suspension bits.

no, you listed a certain set of mods and later have added to it. look back on what you wrote. but of course, this is your selective thinking. not all cams need upgraded valvetrain.

DigitalShift said:

you think 10k is pocket change? ok. i can reach my hand in my pocket and pull that out.

10k is a good portion of a downpayment for a house. 10k is a scion, or a kia or a hyundai. 10k is a lot of money.

i thought the stigma of the honda peoples that believed any bullshit by anyone was gone. apparently not.

you know, stop arguing all you want: instead, go run a simple swap k20 civic on those stock, shitty tires, and full weight, catalytic converter, and without upgraded tuning (maintain stock levels) and prove your claims.

Oh yea I forgot about that, my bad. But saying the test is retarted is a little extreme I would say, it still serves a good purpose which is to test low end torque and throttle response of any car, not just the EVO.

It was just for fun I think, it's not really serious. Just pointing out the downfalls of the car, I also beleive they tested the turning radius..which was horrible as well..lol

OK, but it's not a realistic test. you're not supposed to put that much load on any engine, and any turbo car will experience severe lag. hell, even look at automatic cars: how many are going to stay in their top gear if you hit the gas at 35mph? the test has absolutely nothing to do with real life. there's not nearly as much lag as the test dictates.. do you think it's the same kind of lag in every gear at that speed? of course not. so how is it useful? it shows a test that is only applicable in those exact instances. i honestly don't see how it can be related to normal, every day driving situations. it's just entertainment, and it should be taken as such.

Ok, like I said, it is extreme, because like I said you aren't gonna start in 6th and it shows the weakness the EVO has to an extreme. Does it lag as much as the video showed in every gear? No. But does it lag? Yes. It's an extreme viewpoint on the EVO's weakness, but it is a weakness none-the-less.

 noob. i gave him props for his car and it's probably my favorite EK ever. but his information (290whp w/cams, ITBs, header and tuning??) is not believable off hand. but hey, go on defending your champion of the civic... and one day maybe you'll be able to come up with 290 whp on a k series with just cams, itbs, header and tuning. because it's cool to believe everything on the internet!

271hp 196ft/lb on a dynojet, through full exhaust and a PRC intake manifold. K24.

Thats through the IPS intake manifold . 2.2 liter, 91 octane, 11.5:1comp ratio. One graph was with IPS k2's, the other with kme's.

Granted, these were piston/rod builds. Davey was not 100% right.

hueman said:
i have yet to see a k-powered hatch break 12s without further mods to the k20a. just the swap won't cut it. suspension, bolt ons, chassis work (stripping, reinforcement, whatever), slicks, sure, i'll believe that.. but don't get it twisted: a simple swap will not put that car into the 12s by itself.

yeah, a stock car that can hit 12's and has much more potential for power and handling is soooooo much worse of a tuner car than a car that is completely stripped, fwd, with a complete engine/tranny swap... for the money you've put into it (which factors to be about 12-13k, minus the cost of car), you'd better be in the looooow 11's. otherwise, what's the point? cost of car is a bullshit argument and everyone knows that. keep dreaming the ricer dream bro. i can't imagine where some cars would be with 12-13k put into them... hell, a 240sx would make it cry, and you can get one of those things for virtually nothing.

and roughly, the power differences of evos:

2003-2004 evo8 = dynos about ~220-230whp
2005 evo8 (and evo 8.5) = dynos about ~245whp
2006 evo9 = dynos about ~270whp

so yeah, there's a pretty significant difference between each... and they're more apparent when you start modding.
Here we go bench racing. Let me point out something, a cursory search of an evo forum proves you wrong. Let me show you a thread about Evo 9's. More importantly, a stock evo 9, a stock evo 8, and a modded evo 9.

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?p=2614830

THIS is a bone stock evo 9 graph.

THIS is a bone stock evo 8 graph, overlayed on the evo 9 graph.

HKS 3037 Turbo kit
HKS Intercooler
HKS F-CON VPro (modification of harness required)
HKS Carbon Ti Exhaust
HKS DP
HKS EVC
HKS Twin Power
HKS misc electronics
HKS RS Kit
HKS SSQV
HKS Hipermax RS
DEFI gauges/display
Koyo Radiator
Enkei 18x9.5 +27 NT03
etc..

I'm pretty sure thats over 15k in mods, and they only managed to eke out 414hp at 29lbs of boost. Hell, a NA k-series made over 66% of that without boost, with the same 91 octane pump gas.

Now, if you want to compare 15k in mods on a k-series, on a STOCK motor.

@ 12.8psi the car made 467whp

Soon after the car went to the track and spun the tires in 1st and second and the the clutch slipped in 4th 5th and 6th.. and ran 11.3 @ 127. The car should be getting a clutch soon and should be hitting 10s then its time for a built motor and more boost.=)

Here's the update

It is 9 in the morning in houston and I just got home and want to tell k20a.org the news, well after installing a CM Twind Disk Clutch (Stg.7) jason said lets throw it on dyno and see what it does, man does that cluutch grab, well here's the good news, car made............512whp...........still on completely stock motor, now only a twin disk clutch

Jason AKA St00pid or I myself will post the dyno graph soon

We might head out to the track tonight and see what she does on some 25" slicks
Show me the evo that runs 11.2 on a turbo kit and a non-built motor. I can show you a 100 that dont.

wow, suddenly a 91oct evo from ONE SHOP dictates ALL evos in the COUNTRY? how stupid is this?

and using HKS parts is their own choice. HKS does not hold the whp record or the drag record, so why should this interest you? shops like buschur and ams make much more power for much less. i can't even fathom how stupid this is for you to bring up. HKS makes nice, quality parts, but if you want the best bang for the buck you're not going to go with HKS... their exhausts aren't even a full 3"!

i can't see the links, unfortunately. i am aware of what a boosted k20 can do... what's the record? 10's from PR?

and show me an rsx that runs 11.2 on a turbo kit and a non-built motor. I can show you about 30,000 that don't.

here's an evo from august 2004:

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=95397&highlight=STOCK+BLOCK

here's a more recent one:

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=157517&highlight=STOCK+BLOCK

so is it possible? of course. it's not probable since most people putting out in excess of 500whp will want to upgrade their internals. so it's not a common feat, for any car. and in the end, the evo records are much quicker than the rsx ones.
