First of all...I haven't read barely any of this thread....so im just gonna say what i think...

I....and im sure a lot of other people....have been somewhere where there has been a group of black people who are being loud, annoying, rude, outspoken, etc etc....... I can't even count how many times I have been to a meeting, in class, out to eat....where there have been blacks acting stupid and making scenes....but yet when we call them on it....we are being racist....

I would love to see a video of the blacks.....because I'm damn sure they asked for what happened....and I'm glad Michael Richards had the balls to stick it to them....

Now I'm not racist....but in this world....there are blacks...and there are n*ggers......and the people in the audience that were heckling him....they were n*ggers......

they are the people who take advantage of everyone in society....and anything that they dont get is bc of racism....ooo i didnt get this job bc im black....oh ill be rude and obnoxious somewhere...but dont yell at me...bc if you do its because im black....

If you buy a damn ticket to a show....and you dont like the comedian...just leave....dont yell at him...and act like ur a f**king 5 year old.....
If michael richards DIDNT use the word n*gger...i would put a million dollars on the fact that those blacks would have continued throughout the show to heckle and yell and be annoying....

Stand up and be a person.....dont be black...or white.....you get what you deserve by how you act.....not your skin color....Granted there are many racist people out there......but more times than not i see things like this happen all the time....Michael Richards just took it into his hands to stop the heckling and do what probably 80 percent of the audience was thinking at the time...

i refuse to agree that im allowed some special consideration for being white.. as ive never experienced anything like that.. i dont walk around in a constant fog or haze..i recognize when ive been let off for like speeding.. but that was with respect to mutual police friends.. not some secret white brotherhood..
see, i think this is where a lot of people here conflict. i personally believe that white privilige is obviously there...some people just are blind to it.

Also, racism will never cease to exist....im sorry...its not gonna happen....

If we start giving blacks and other minorities jobs over whites bc of affirmative action...well guess what we are doing....

starting a whole new shitshow that leaves whites the outgroup....

We just happen to be a country that was founded with slaves...sorry.....

I'm not saying we havent come a long way, and that we cant get further in the future.....

Im just saying affirmative action isnt helping the cause...its causing more racism in my eyes...

so i am tired of writing and expressing my thoughts without getting anywhere...so from now ill be displaying other peoples thoughs that accurately express mine. hope those of you who claim youre right will actually read this and not be afraid of what you may see within the words.

by robert jensen:
I am as white as white gets in this country. I am of northern European heritage and I was raised in North Dakota, one of the whitest states in the country. I grew up in a virtually all-white world surrounded by racism, both personal and institutional. Because I didn't live near a reservation, I didn't even have exposure to the state's only numerically significant non-white population, American Indians.

I have struggled to resist that racist training and the ongoing racism of my culture. I like to think I have changed, even though I routinely trip over the lingering effects of that internalized racism and the institutional racism around me. But no matter how much I "fix" myself, one thing never changes--I walk through the world with white privilege.

What does that mean? Perhaps most importantly, when I seek admission to a university, apply for a job, or hunt for an apartment, I don't look threatening. Almost all of the people evaluating me for those things look like me--they are white. They see in me a reflection of themselves, and in a racist world that is an advantage. I smile. I am white. I am one of them. I am not dangerous. Even when I voice critical opinions, I am cut some slack. After all, I'm white.

My flaws also are more easily forgiven because I am white. Some complain that affirmative action has meant the university is saddled with mediocre minority professors. I have no doubt there are minority faculty who are mediocre, though I don't know very many. As Henry Louis Gates Jr. once pointed out, if affirmative action policies were in place for the next hundred years, it's possible that at the end of that time the university could have as many mediocre minority professors as it has mediocre white professors. That isn't meant as an insult to anyone, but is a simple observation that white privilege has meant that scores of second-rate white professors have slid through the system because their flaws were overlooked out of solidarity based on race, as well as on gender, class and ideology.

Some people resist the assertions that the United States is still a bitterly racist society and that the racism has real effects on real people. But white folks have long cut other white folks a break. I know, because I am one of them.

I am not a genius--as I like to say, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I have been teaching full-time for six years, and I've published a reasonable amount of scholarship. Some of it is the unexceptional stuff one churns out to get tenure, and some of it, I would argue, actually is worth reading. I work hard, and I like to think that I'm a fairly decent teacher. Every once in awhile, I leave my office at the end of the day feeling like I really accomplished something. When I cash my paycheck, I don't feel guilty.

But, all that said, I know I did not get where I am by merit alone. I benefited from, among other things, white privilege. That doesn't mean that I don't deserve my job, or that if I weren't white I would never have gotten the job. It means simply that all through my life, I have soaked up benefits for being white. I grew up in fertile farm country taken by force from non-white indigenous people. I was educated in a well-funded, virtually all-white public school system in which I learned that white people like me made this country great. There I also was taught a variety of skills, including how to take standardized tests written by and for white people.

All my life I have been hired for jobs by white people. I was accepted for graduate school by white people. And I was hired for a teaching position at the predominantly white University of Texas, which had a white president, in a college headed by a white dean and in a department with a white chairman that at the time had one non-white tenured professor.

There certainly is individual variation in experience. Some white people have had it easier than me, probably because they came from wealthy families that gave them even more privilege. Some white people have had it tougher than me because they came from poorer families. White women face discrimination I will never know. But, in the end, white people all have drawn on white privilege somewhere in their lives.

Like anyone, I have overcome certain hardships in my life. I have worked hard to get where I am, and I work hard to stay there. But to feel good about myself and my work, I do not have to believe that "merit," as defined by white people in a white country, alone got me here. I can acknowledge that in addition to all that hard work, I got a significant boost from white privilege, which continues to protect me every day of my life from certain hardships.

At one time in my life, I would not have been able to say that, because I needed to believe that my success in life was due solely to my individual talent and effort. I saw myself as the heroic American, the rugged individualist. I was so deeply seduced by the culture's mythology that I couldn't see the fear that was binding me to those myths. Like all white Americans, I was living with the fear that maybe I didn't really deserve my success, that maybe luck and privilege had more to do with it than brains and hard work. I was afraid I wasn't heroic or rugged, that I wasn't special.

I let go of some of that fear when I realized that, indeed, I wasn't special, but that I was still me. What I do well, I still can take pride in, even when I know that the rules under which I work in are stacked in my benefit. I believe that until we let go of the fiction that people have complete control over their fate--that we can will ourselves to be anything we choose--then we will live with that fear. Yes, we should all dream big and pursue our dreams and not let anyone or anything stop us. But we all are the product both of what we will like ourselves to be and what the society in which we live lets us be.

White privilege is not something I get to decide whether or not I want to keep. Every time I walk into a store at the same time as a black man and the security guard follows him and leaves me alone to shop, I am benefiting from white privilege.

---------------------------------------------

and i am sure very few of you have been followed by a security guard when entering a store...especially the nice ones....ask minorities if theyve been followed...then answer might surprise you.

i personally have had friends walk into stores and noone helps them while white people walking in get attended to lighting fast. is it cause they think we can afford their products or something?

If there is a magical white privelege pot at the end of the rainbow please point me at it.

But since this is about as magical as a pot of gold I will remain living in the real world.

Oh wait there is, I should take a pay cut at work.

I make about $24,000 a year look out bill gates, but that seems to be enough to support me and my wife.

Neither of us can get s**t for financial aid, because I make too much.

Again to judge the privelege of some rich whiney rich kids to the whole of the population is lame.

But until the day comes that all is equall I will continue to bust my ass to provide.

And I don't care wehat race you are.

Don't have a job- get one

Live in a shitty place- put your s**t in a bag and buy a bus ticket

Get in trouble with the law- quit breaking the law a*****e

school system is racist- put twice the effort into your grades to prove those f**kers wrong

hooked on drugs- quit taking them dumbass

It isn't hard

I f**ked off everything to be a homeless tweaker, but guess what. It was my choice to better myself.

There was no need help and white office I went to.

With no money I scrounged up enough to get a bus ticket out of where I was and to start over, I guess I was able to do that cuz I was white.

Whatever

it's inside each and every person to succeed. Either you choose to use it or you don't. The better man deals with the fact that his house was built by him, and if his roof is leaking he is going to have to fix it.

If I want to go to school, I will have to bust my ass even harder and save up the money to go.

I'm 34 years old and have f**ked up half my life by my choice. It wasn't a conspiracy of my black drug dealer puttin down the whiteys, It was me.

But I got over it and realized if there was to be change, I had to do it. And I did.

So to any race out there that says it can't be done, that it's too hard, that I don't have help.

Shut the f**k up and do it for yourself.
I have no tollerance for the stupid or the lazy

well if thats the case i have just discovered something i like to call "minority complex" which is a complex by which minorities believe everyone and everything is alligned against them, and the only solution to gaining equality is to create inequality.. and that no matter how hard they try they will get no where.. of course like most dillusional people if you ask them about it they will have no idea what you are talking about.. some of them are just blind to it.. but its real.. and its there.. why you ask? because i say so.. that seems to be good enough for other points in this thread.. so keep on blaming problems on everything but the source.. it generally wont get you very far.. and it will ensure that i and my family will have jobs for a long time to come.. i wont raise children who suffer from the dillusion that the problems they face are anything but what they make of it, people who rely on themselves to generate change......

maybe if im bored later ill ad it to wiki just so i can site the source later..

funny you would say that cause the fact that you posted based on your opinions and not research or at least intellectually based suggestions shows you are pretty lazy.

and in my opinion you probably have posted the stupidest post on this thread writing though anger and not reason. so again funny that you would say you have no tollerance for people like you.

My research is go outside.

I am not angry in the bit

We live in a world that people expect handouts

if they are not given there has to be a racial answer to it

in the way of making racial excuses there becomes more segragation and racial tension

until people except that they have to do for themselves I will call those people lazy and stupid

A kid who thinks he can hustle his way through life, only to relize that people have no tollerance for that s**t after adolescence is stupid

another african american calling another african american a nigga is plain stupid

expecting help when you are not willing to help yourself is lazy

again real world, it's outside you should go look at it. There is no conspiracy to keep minorities down.

california.. must be a whole different world..

because HONESTLY sitting here thinking.. ive not to my knowledge ever been granted any special access or consideration because im "white"..
california is not a whole different world.

the california SCHOOL system however is a whole different world. The classes especially the "multicultralism" ones are all taught by crazy socalists, ESPECIALLY at UC davis, which is the school flora and a good friend of mine brian (sublimewls) attended ...

just to show you .... lincolns birthday .... brian comes over here probably after hearing some lame rhetoric at davis and starts talking about how hes home cause hes got no school the next day because of some "old racist motherfuckers" birthday ... reffering to lincoln ... all because lincoln owned slaves and some anti american teacher over at uc davis decided it would be great to portray a former president in a negative light even though everybody had slaves back then.

I dont know about the rest of the country, but its amazing what passes for "teachers" and "classes" in california.

I have 10 bosses at work.

one is indian (from india) .... he constantly f**ks up and is a complete d**k even though bottom of the barrel employees like myself gotta show him how to do s**t he still remains our boss even though he is COMPLETLY unqualified for the job. But guess what hes indian so he got promoted.

another example is a regular employee SELLS DRUGS IN THE PARKING LOT WHILE ON THE CLOCK ... and the bosses KNOW ABOUT IT and do nothing ... but no he will never get fired cause he is also a minority.

he is different from the norm in this country and this makes him contribute to the diversity of perspectives in a classroom. different ideas is what learning is all about...a classroom with 20 white kids...is not as good a learning experience as a classroom with 5 blacks, 5 latinos, 5 whites, and 5 asians or something.
Just because he has darker skin?

So, that interracial couple in Europe who recently had twin girls, and one came out black and one came out white (yes, this happens but it's rare), the black girl is a better candidate for going to college because she'll have a different "blacker" view than her white sister?

On the note of starving people in the US and such though.... Okay, say you're 12 and you're starving. Youtr parents don't give a crap about you and barely notice when you're around. Could you not find a church? I know I don't believe in religion, but I still know that most church staff are decent people and would be willing to help.

This kind of reminds me of a story my Mom recently told me...
My Mom (also a Judge) said:
I'm going to tell you a little story. Where I work at JP Court, we had a retired military who was hired as a clerk. As military, he was an enlisted guy (not an officer) who worked his way up and did well, then retired after 20 years in (pretty common in the military). Anyway, his wife is a registered nurse. They moved from Maine to Delaware a few years ago because friends recommended the area. His wife began working at Kent General. He looked and looked for work, but had a hard time finding a job. After 5 months of being unemployed, he was hired as a at JP Court. From the beginning, he was not your average clerk. For one thing, he dressed very professionally and gave off a really professional attitude with co-workers and clients. He tried to learn everything about our business, and he never considered any work beneath him. In his third year, he was nominated and won Employee of the Year for JP Court. Then something amazing happened. We had a new judge vacancy, and Governor Minner put out the word she was looking for a minority (we've never had a black judge in Kent County). Long story short, he was urged to apply for the appointment, was selected, and was confirmed by the Delaware Senate. He became a judge and nearly quadrupled his annual salary. He's been on the bench now for 6 months and is doing very well.
Astheros said:
this is just to show the numerous reasons as to why people get points. for being a minority, for a being poor, for being an athlete, for the quality of schools they went to. if you think one thing is wrong....i think then that argument can be made for a lot of things on this page. but i dont hear anyone complaining about anything other than race. and people just dont get admitted for being black...(thats a dumb way to look at it) you get the points cause youre underrepresented (many reasons why someone is underrepresented) and because your diversity adds to the learning environment.
Meh, I also think it's wrong that you get into a better college because you play football well or run fast. At the same time though, I see how that could directly affect that college in a positive manner... as in.. they have sports there. I can't remember hearing about any "black only," or "Norwegian-roots only" classes in a college.
if most people made some research, you would figure out that when balanced against each other. the extra points a minority can gain for being a minority is very little. when you take into consideration that students also get points for donations, working for the university, being a legacy, and all other kinds of stuff. the difference left is 'extra points' for contributing to the diversity of a classroom like i said before which is not a handout.
I'm not sure who typed this (grabbed it from No Regrets' post), but... wow. Sounds like you could use a grammar class or five. Read it, taking note on where the commas and periods are.

why does scholarships have to be about anything? :?:
Because it being random isn't fair? Scholarships should be based on something... just not things like what color your skin, eyes, or hair are...

There is a lot of good discussion going on here, on both sides. But really, there is NO way you can convince me that a more deserving white person should not get a job, get into school, ect because people want diversity, even if that diverse person is less deserving. You just cant. Perfectly capable and deserving white people should NOT have to suffer based on the mistakes of white people hundreds of years ago, who they may not even be related to or have connections with.

I remember getting called a racist in school when I refused to let another kid (who happened to be black, and a trouble maker) sit with me on the bus. We had assigned seats (partially because of this kid and his friends making trouble). He tried to sit with me, and I knew he was an asshat, so of all people I wasn't going to let him break the rules and sit near me. When I said he wasn't going to sit with me (because his name wasn't on the card for that seat) he called me a racist. I thnk I remember him calling me a Nazi too...

He first acted like I wanted to fight him (wtf?) and then, when I stood up he said, "they're holding me back, they're holding me back," as he stood surrounded by others. He wasn't being held... Then the bus driver ended up having to physically grab him and force him to sit in the front.

Had Michael Richards not used that one word... the hecklers would still be the only bad guy and none of us woudl have ever heard about this. The only reason he's "the bad guy" is because he used one certain word. It's not the way he even said it... Had he called them assholes or whatever instead... he'd still be in the clear.
