First off I take my hat off to anyone that takes his street car and turns into a full blown race car...By that I mean for track use only.

To me I believe why this guy likes his single cam is because in his past he has beaten numerous twin cams...s**t, thats also why I kept my sohc. Its all about what motor works best for you within your time and budget. Isnt that the same with all of us? Well, unless your a rich f**k, but not all of us are that fortunate. I'm sure if if this guy was hella rich, he would have a NSX motor in his race car, but thats not the case. Why would he go with a twin cam if he's already proved to himself that his sohc is as fast? At this point no one cares about the mod to mod and power differences between the motors, they just care about building a fast car/motor within their time frame and budget that everyone can appreciate.

I know Nor Cal isnt hatin on single cams, and thats cool, cuz i'm sure he knows his s**t, but a lot of people these days think buildin on SOHC's are a waste of time. And thats mainly cuz people are caught up in the motor swapping...everyone is doin it.

You can't really compare a sohc and a dohc, its pointless...Unless you are a retard, everyone knows that twin cams are ofcourse more powerfull. No one is going to say "build a single instead of a twin." Its obvious which motor is more powerfull, but this guy doesnt care, all he cares about is proving the fact that Single cams indeed can be fast. In no way is he trying to prove singles are better than twins.

People like this guy just reminds us all that single cams may not be as powerfull as twin cams, but can damn sure be just as quick. Thats all that matters in a motor, the quickness, right?

Bottom line, don't we all (unless your a hater) race our honda's for the joy of it? No one's out there to prove that this motor is quicker than that motor...isnt that true?

I'm probably not makin any sense, its pretty late... I'm going to sleep.

Why wouldn't I be competitive? Right now the fastest car in my class runs an 11.3. He is a friend of mine and has approx. 220 hp with a B series. Keep in mind this is not a HP competition. It's about who makes it the end first. JG has produced a street D series engine with 220 HP. Bisi's D15 produced over 240 HP which he ran 10.7's with. Now with the help of Bisi and my two engine builders who both have over 25 yrs experience my engine is a beefed up version of Bisi's D15. I am running the D16 block that has been bored to 79mm making it an 1.8L and is running on Methanol which is good for an addtional 20% increase in power. Since I have had failed attemps at the dyno we can only guess what the power may be on my engine. Once it is back together I will post the results. Good or Bad. I am still skeptical myself I am not an engine builder, but I have faith in my builders. And who cares if I don't make as much power as a B if I still beat them, that's what matters.

It depends on what you want to do. Do you want an all out drag car, a road race car, autocross, quick street car??

The same setup doesn't work for everyone. You need to find out what you want out of the car within you money constraints and mod accordingly

All around car, something that is fun on the street, can be taken to the track, and is still a daily driver. I think this is how most of our cars are used.

Do you have anything already, Bolt-ons? I can go through the journey that I have done. Or do you have all the bolt-ons and are now wondering what's next?

Well, for one, a 5L mustang set up for race only, kinda like the car that started this thread, running alcohol, wouldn't just be hitting 10's, but at least dipping into the 8's.
I know =) Which is why i do actually have a lot of respect for the work you've done to your car

I just dont like the ppl why buy stock 5L mustangs take them to the races and gloat over the slightly modded d16 drivers who actually spent time building up their car.

yes exactly but that guy was making stupid comments and i just didn't want to here it.
1. YOUR opinion that it was a stupid comment, i was merely stating that if all we wanted was power, right from the start, we should start with something POWERFUL. But its not about that, its about tuning, and the work we do to our cars.

2. If you dont wanna hear ppl's opinons, leave.

3. hear* not here

Next time think before you start spouting.

I have a 97 ex the only mods are a tanabe exhaust and a cai. Everything else is bone stock. I'm due for a timing belt soon, do you recommend a cam gear or pulleys while I got stuff tore apart.

For the other 2 guys bickering on here just brush it off and go on, or take it elsewhere.

I can not give you an honest opion about the pulleys, have never used them. Cam gear I wouldn't waste my money unless you are changing the cam at the same time. Header I would do. 4-1 style get for top-end power. A good clutch also make a difference. If you want more air coming in bored out throttle body and matched intake helps. Then I would go an get a fuel pressure regulator. A chipped computer can be a pain in the ass. There are many different programs out there and you will most likely not have the same stuff that they used to tune it with. I have also never tried a Vtec controller but I hear they work great. An upgraded ignition systems I would do near the end.
If you have a few bucks to spend I would get a cam and cam gear, have some head work done get a fuel pressure regulator, 4-1 header, larger throttle body, upgraded fuel pump. (I used one out of an eagle talon) And some way to control your computer. That's basically everything I did and ran 14.1's. And the most important thing spend some time on a dyno. One time I gained 4hp just by regapping my spark plugs. I hope that helps a little.

Ok, that helps alot. What is the most important things when doing up a head. What did you have done to yours when you ran a 14.1?
