nah not this one its like a clamp it goes around the tire and the rimmercuryrising said:Ive never had the boot on, but Ive heard you just have to deflate your tire a bit and it will slide off.
in range? whats the range for lojac?Panathrasher said:Unfortunately thieves evolve. Lo Jack also has a new system that will alert you if your car is being driven without a sensor chip that you carry on your key chain. They can contact you several different ways i.e. cellular phone, pager, text message, e-mail and the list goes on. This helps you to report it to the police sooner and get the Lo Jack signal activated sooner. Nothing is 100%.
The down side to systems like the Viper and other after market systems is that the viper operator has to call you and determine your car was stolen. He/she then calls the local police department and tells the dispatcher. The dispatcher then relays the information to the officers over the radio; information can get fubar that way.
Also the information only gets to the agency the operator is on the phone with, other nearby agencies are left in the dark. Let’s say that your car is stolen from the mall in City A. The operator will call Department A and report that your car was stolen and where it currently is. Department A says, we'll meet the victim and take the police report but the car is now in City B, you need to call Department B and tell them where the car is. The operator has to hang up and now call Department B; meanwhile the car is still moving and could be in City G by the time the call gets through.
Once a Lo Jack signal is activated it is sent to all Lo Jack tracking units, if you're in range you are going to know where the car is. This allows multiple agencies to converge on the cars location and work together on recovering it rather than playing phone tag.
First of all I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome to Club Civic, I appreciate it. As far as the range for Lo Jack is concerned it uses cellular phone towers to triangulate the cars location. If you get a signal for your cellular phone Lo Jack will work. I can't speak for the exact distance but the city I work in is about 10 to 15 miles from the Tijuana border crossing and we get signals from cars that unfortunately have all ready made it across. So the range isn't too shabby. In case you're wondering what happens to the cars that make it across, CHP has a team that works with the Mexican Police to recover those cars. I hope this helps.Blazed said:in range? whats the range for lojac?
What does that do to your rim?B16A2_CIVIC said:nah not this one its like a clamp it goes around the tire and the rim
that's actually a great device..Panathrasher said:What does that do to your rim?
I had to install a jeep with one of thoes on it the other day, and that was a b***h an a half....I never want to do that again. But I got most of the connections up in there so that it would be hard to mess with if someone does try to steal it.NOFX said:Oh yeah, when I said a steering column collar, I didn't mean one of the red commercial ones that lock around it. I meant I'd want something actually welded around the steering column to protect it. Yes, I know it'd be a pain in the ass to work around, but oh well. I don't usually have to access it anyway.
I'm really sorry to hear that, good that it's recovered though.NOFX said:That's what I mostly thought too. My car was stolen two days ago though.
Krispy Kreme donuts suck.Beelzebubba said:You can always get some serious heavy duty chain and chain your drive axle to an object that won't move. 100 year old oak tree, bridge support, cop car at Krispy Kreme...etc... Now that's not going to keep a thief from trying to drive off but at least your car will be near where you left it...with a broken drive axle mind you...but still there.
but seriously, I like that boot! Won't do crap for your stereo but at least your car will still be there. My only concern is that the tow companies will see it and assume that they can just impound your car because parking enforcement booted it.
what raza said ^^^^Blazed said:that's actually a great device..
alpha lock i believe its called...
its made out of metal that goes around ur tire and thru the wheel so no1 can drive the car without taking it off first..
i believe a lot of police and shreiffs dept. use them if they cant tow a car they put the locks on until they resolve the tickets/disputes over the car...
btw...post some pics of ur car in the member rides section
