and my hidden fuel cut off switch =)

i'm not worried as easy :thumbs up
As far as I know, your kill switch is probbaly the best thing on there.

I hear Lo-Jack is often put in nearly identical places on the car. And I already went over bypassing the detachable steering wheel and locking lugs in another thread today.

Then again, they're still always just theft deterrants.

NOFX why are those bolts so damn expensive, and is it for 100 of them? it ays somehting about that, and could you just but them at home depot or something? This will be my next next in anti theft if i can get ahold of some, and what if i need my steering column taken off for some reason? like getting a 2nd battery hooked up to my alarm or something, what do i have to do to get the bolts off? thanks in advance

I'm not sure that you could get those bolts at Home Depot. In fact I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have them, because when you'e working on a house or such it's a good idea to be able to have hardware you can easily work with if you come back years later (or someone else does). So most hardware on a home for example is going to be pretty universal. Phillips tip screws and such I mean.

And well, a phillips tip screw isn't a theft deterrant in the least really.

The bolts I linked to... you have to buy the bolts and the tool to work with those botls. That's how you'd remove them (and put them on). Well, depending on which hardware you chose to use. The site gives all the info though. I've never bought from them.

i thought with lojack, they ask you were you want it. thats what the people that installed my friends car did when he bought and installed his lojack.

personally i would steal braid every wire running to the brain of an alarm. and put a bullet proof casing over the battery.

Car Theft - Top Tips on Anti-Theft Devices

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has solutions for all sorts of theft; this is their advice on anti-theft for cars. These prices are guidelines; find a solution that best fits your budget. Read the following tips from NICB or visit the NICB site for additional theft solutions.

Common Sense

--1. Remove Ignition Keys
------If removed from the ignition after every use, ordinary ignition keys can significantly reduce the
------likelihood of theft.
------ * Cost: Standard in all models
------ * Benefits: Easy to use
--2. Door Locks/Closed Windows
------Door locks, the original anti-theft device, and closed windows effectively limit access to the
------vehicle’s interior.
------ * Cost: Standard in all models
------ * Benefits: Prevents easy access
--3. Park in a Well-Lit Area
------Parking in a well-lit area discourages thieves from approaching a vehicle because of visibility.
------ * Cost: None
------ * Benefits: Prevents easy access

Warning Devices

--1. Audible Alarms
------Audible alarms are typically equipped with motion or impact sensors, which trigger a
------120-decibel siren.
------ * Cost: $150 - $1,000
------ * Benefits: Effective in preventing thefts, burglaries and vandalism
--2. Steering Column Collars
------Steering column collars prevent thieves from “hot-wiring” the vehicle. Some collars are
------installed permanently. Others must be continuously activated.
------ * Cost: $100 - $200 installed
------ * Benefits: Excellent protection for older vehicles
--3. Steering Wheel Locks
------A steering wheel lock is a metal bar designed to prevent the steering wheel from turning.
------ * Cost: $25 - $100
------ * Benefits: Excellent visual deterrent
--4. Steering Wheel/Brake Pedal Lock
------Prevents depression of the brake pedal.
------ * Cost: $15 - $80
------ * Benefits: Excellent visible deterrent
--5. Tire Locks
------Similar to the circular steel “boots” used by many large city police departments, tire locks
------prevent the vehicle from being driven.
------ * Cost: $80 - $200
------ * Benefits: Excellent visible deterrent
--6. Tire Deflators
------Attaches to the tire valve stem and causes the tire to go flat if the tire rotates before they are
------removed.
------ * Cost: Under $50
------ * Benefits: Easy and inexpensive to use.
--7. Theft Deterrent Decals
------Theft deterrent decals visually warn thieves the vehicle is protected by an alarm or other
------antitheft devices.
------ * Cost: $2 - $5
------ * Benefits: Inexpensive but effective
--8. Identification markers in or on vehicle
------Security labels marking various vehicle parts enabling the part to be identified if removed from
------the vehicle.
------ * Cost: $2 - $15
------ * Benefits: Inexpensive, discourages thieves from stealing the vehicle and aids in recovery
--9. Window Etching
------Etching the vehicle identification number or other traceable number onto the vehicle’s
------windows makes it difficult for thieves to resell the vehicle or its parts.
------ * Cost: Free to $100
------ * Benefits: Discourages thieves from stealing the vehicle and aids in recovery
-10. Laminated Glass
------Impact resistant protective glazing applied to vehicle windows designed to fortify the windows
------against penetration or splintering.
------ * Cost: Standard
------ * Benefits: Excellent protection for vehicle windows

Immobilizing Devices

--1. Smart Keys
------Smart keys contain specially coded computer chips or radio frequencies. Without the exact
------key, the vehicle’s engine cannot be started.
------ * Cost: Standard in some models
------ * Benefits: Effective and extremely easy to use
--2. Fuse cut-offs
------Short circuits the electrical system, preventing the vehicle from starting.
------ * Cost: $40 - $90
------ * Benefits: Inexpensive and relatively easy to install
--3. Kill Switches
------Kill switches inhibit the flow of electricity or fuel to the engine until a hidden switch is
------activated.
------ * Cost: $10 - $125
------ * Benefits: Inexpensive and relatively easy to install
--4. Starter, ignition and fuel disablers
------Short circuits the electrical or fuel system, preventing the vehicle from starting, or causes the
------vehicle to stop running within a short time.
------ * Cost: Standard in some models
------ * Benefits: Inexpensive and easy to use

Tracking Devices

--1. Tracking Devices
------Most tracking devices are electronic transmitters hidden in the vehicle, which emit signals to
------the police or monitoring stations when the vehicle is reported stolen.
------ * Cost: $400 to $1,500
------ * Benefits: Effective in recovering stolen vehicles

I dont think there really is anything you can do to keep thieves away from your car aside from electrocution or something that would likely put you in jail.

But there are things you can do to make stealing your car a pain in the ass. What I have done to my car are little things but i like to think it helps.
-Alarm with shock/tilt sensor
-Backup alarm on its own battery
-I rerouted my hood release cable from the wheel well to inside the engine bay(92-95 civics). So they wouldnt be able to pop my hood from outside the car and disable everything without setting off anything.
-Popped off my lock buttons in the inside so they would have to climb threw my broken window with the alarm going off to get my stereo or what not. Only bad thing is if I get in a accident and I cant get outta my burning car.
-6 different bolts to hold on my front lip
-4 steelies ;)
-ghetto fading milano paint (didnt make it this way, just turned out for the best)

So far my cars(2) have been broken into 3 times. 1 attempt on my car with only the plastic pillar broken and the rubber ripped off around the doorframe. And my wifes car with a broken window on 1 attempt and a dent in the body on the other (prying the door off with a screw driver FTL). Nothing ever stolen just had to fix the damages since my deductable is $500. :(
