And for shits and giggles... I called up this dude, Jeff in Tennessee, a small auto dealer for this bad boy...
1996 Subaru Impreza Brighton AWD - $3495 - 115,000 miles
Here's the phone call as I remember:
Me: Hello is Jeff available?
Jeff: This is he.
Me: Hey Jeff, I'm calling out from Texas and I just seen your ad in Autotrader about a '96 Subaru Impreza.
Jeff: Mmhmm.
Me: I noticed you're asking just about 3,500 for the car and I was wondering if you're willing to negotiate on that price?
Jeff: Well, the price is pretty firm on the website and if you were to get a bank loan, it would have to be local around the area just so we don't have complications with out of state banks.
Me: Oh that won't be a probably; I was actually looking to purchase the car cash.
Jeff: Okay, that makes it even better. What were you trying to offer? I'll look through our records as see how much of a deal I can get you.
Me: I was thinking something along the lines of $2,000? It's a pretty big risk for me to fly out there with cash in hand not knowing how the vehicle looks, drives, and feels; then drive it all the way back out to Texas.
Jeff: I understand the situation, but $2,000 I cannot do; that's simply below the blue book value! I guarantee that the car is in great condition!
Me: Tell me more about the vehicle. Is there rust anywhere on the car? How's the interior look? And most importantly, how's the engine start up and sound?
Jeff: Well, I'm walking around the car as we speak; no rust signs anywhere on the car. The body is in great condition, there's a few typical dings here and there but nothing major; the paint even still shines! Hold on real quick and let me grab the keys...
Me: Okay...
*Okay I don't want to type out anymore since this is f**king retarded typing out all of this crap. Anyways, the whole next part is him starting up the car, even revving it a few times. Pretty much, he says there's nothing wrong with the car! Am I tripping here? An AWD Impreza for under 3,500 with damn near working everything and still pretty good condition? Anyways, he rates the car a 7 out of 10; the body needs some minor work (pulling dings), interior could use some reupholstering, and the engine could use a tune up. I finally negotiate with him down to the price of $2,800; fixed price paid in cash.

- Called out of town small dealer for shits and giggles
- Caught the owner, which was a real cool dude
- Car seems to be legit, in his eyes
- Pictures look legit, but I have to see in my eyes
- He wanted $3,495
- I wanted $2,000
- Worked out $2,800 flat out cash
- Thinking if this is worth my time and money... If so, check out my plans below.
*Have no payments at all; more money to mods and fixing up s**t that needs to be fixed
*Self OCD detailing of the exterior, interior, engine bay
*Source out a newer WRX or STI motor/drivetrain/hubs & swap that sucker in
*Change out the carpet, head liner, and door cards to BLACK
*Find WRX premium (all black nylon?) seats for front and back
*'04+ STI dash ('05+ steering wheel)
*Keep exterior stock (maybe pick up different wheels or bigger steelies to clear Brembos) for the ultimate sleeper look!
- Guestimation of price for plans to be complete = $8k-10k
So how about it CC? Good way to blow my moneys?
